I could find no information related to this query on the Intel site. I did find a statement on the Tom's Hardware site (here) that stated the following: "Socket G (rPGA989) can accept either Socket G1 microprocessors (rPGA988A) or Socket G2 microprocessors (rPGA988B)".
Pinhedd's follow-on statement is also very important: "That microprocessor should be socket and power compatible, but that doesn't mean that the firmware will support it." Stating this another way, the processor must be socket, motherboard (meaning power and cooling) and BIOS compatible.
Bottom line, while it could work, it cannot be guaranteed that this will result in a working system.
