Spielabsturz/Freeze/Neustart

Hallo zusammen!

Habe vor kurzem mein System zusammengebaut.

i5 12600KF, MSI Pro Z690 A DDR4, RTX 3080 Ti FE, G.Skill Ripjaws V 32GB 3600-CL18, Kingston NV1 2TB SSD, Corsair H150i RGB Pro XT AIO, be Quiet Pure Power 11 FM 850W.

Hello @DonPierre

Thank you for posting on the Intel® communities.

Bitte beachten Sie, dass ich Sie nur in englischer Sprache unterstützen kann. Ich habe ein Web-Übersetzungstool verwendet, um diese Antwort zu übersetzen, daher kann es einige ungenaue Übersetzungen geben.

We understand that you are experiencing game freezing/crashing issues and sometimes Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) errors as well.

In regards to your concern if this could be related to the "DRM Issue with 12th Gen Intel® Core™ Processors", we would like to inform you that Intel has resolved the DRM issue on 12th Gen intel® Core™ Processors that caused games to crash or not load in Windows 11* and/or Windows® 10 by working with game publishers and Microsoft*. At this time, all games originally identified as having this DRM issue have been fixed through game patches or OS updates.

Also, the specific games that you mentioned (Apex Legends, Call of Duty: Warzone, and Red Dead Redemption) were not on the list of games affected by this issue (as far as we know).

If you experience issues with a game affected by the DRM on an older Windows OS, please run the latest version of Windows Update to resolve the issue. Along with game patches, the most recent updates for Windows 11 and Windows 10 have resolved a majority of the DRM issues.

Now, we understand that you have sent in the Graphics Video card (Nvidia) RTX 3080 Ti FE for an exchange. Considering the Intel® Core™ i5-12600KF Processor doesn't have built-in graphics, it seems that we will need to wait for you to receive back the graphics card to review this further because there are no graphics capabilities in the system at this time for normal operation. Is this correct? (unless you have another one handy to test). If that is the case, no worries! we can wait the necessary time...

Once you received the graphics card (or if you are able to test with another one) and if the issue still persists, please provide us with the following details to check this further:

1- Just to make sure, since you mentioned you "recently assembled this system", was the problem occurring since the very first day? Or did it work fine before at some point? (at least for some days or weeks?)

2- We understand that you enabled Intel® XMP (Extreme Memory Profiles). Could you please confirm what the memory speed configured was?

3- Please share more details of the "faulty or corrupted files" that were found when you run the CMD command "sfc /scannow"? What type of files "could not be fixed"?

4- Details of the BSOD error message (e.g.: message description, error code, etc), and if possible a picture:

5- Run the Intel® System Support Utility (Intel® SSU) to gather more details about the system:

  • Download the Intel® SSU and save the application on your computer
  • Open the application, check the "Everything" checkbox, and click "Scan" to see the system and device information. The Intel® SSU defaults to the "Summary View" on the output screen following the scan. Click the menu where it says "Summary" to change to "Detailed View".
  • To save your scan, click Next and click Save.
  • Once you have saved the file (.txt file), please attach it to your reply.

To upload and attach a file, use the "Drag and drop here or browse files to attach" option below the response textbox.

Note:

Since this request is regarding an Intel® CPU without built-in graphics, we are moving it to the Processors Forum.

Best regards,

Andrew G.

Hello Andrew!

I actually tested my System with the new Nvidia RTX 3080 TI Founders Edition. I did a new Windows 10 installation, i set up my BIOS/UEFI the Fan RPM and XMP enabled. The driver for ethernet was needed because for Windows 10 it ain't there and I had to install it manually with an usb flash drive. Strangely enough there is a realtek ethernet driver allready installed if I install Windows 11.

Now... installed again Apex Legends, CoD Warzone and Red Dead Redemption 2.  Played a while Apex and Warzone, which was totaly fine but as I played Red Dead and did a break about couple of minutes (therwhile in Game Menu for that break), after beeing back and go back into gameplay, it crashed without any messages...

I also plugged the second 8pin CPU on the motherboard. and I plugged the PCIe cable at an another slot at the power supply unit.

"1- Just to make sure, since you mentioned you "recently assembled this system", was the problem occurring since the very first day? Or did it work fine before at some point? (at least for some days or weeks?)"

-Well it started at the first day, but just when I am still playing games. The system is running quiet well in office, music and all that stuff but the games crashs while I am playing.

"2- We understand that you enabled Intel® XMP (Extreme Memory Profiles). Could you please confirm what the memory speed configured was?"

-I enabled it and I will upload some files.

"3- Please share more details of the "faulty or corrupted files" that were found when you run the CMD command "sfc /scannow"? What type of files "could not be fixed"?"

-Where can I find the protocol/dialogfile after a scan? Maybe you can give me a little step by step tutorial how to find it. But I did this scan again after this crash and it told me, that there are some faulty files which were fixed.

"4- Details of the BSOD error message (e.g.: message description, error code, etc), and if possible a picture:"

-I can post some of the message description and codes (some desciptions are in german):

Hey,

for this time I got a blue screen, I'll upload a picture. Also got a crash while I played Red Dead Redemption.

Some informations about your entire checkpoints.

1. Got the problems at the first time. Office and co. runs pretty well but if I do to much and have to much programs in progress, then it is problably an issue for blue screen like few minutes ago. Gaming is further a problem.

2. XMP is enabled in UEFI and set all Fans.

3. I will upload a CBS log file after a sfc /scannow (hopefully it is the right one).

4. I will upload some BSOD messages.

5. Also upload this file.

And I show you some new BSOD messages after this blue screen crash.

Also got a memory.dmp but it has about 3GB and is too much for an upload here, maybe you got an idea how to show it if it's important?

Hello DonPierre

Thank you for your response and for all the details, we really appreciate it.

Checking the Event IDs shared here, they don't necessarily point out the exact "BSOD" error/cause. However, checking one of the screenshots we can see a reference to the BSOD error "IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL" which is typically a memory-related error.

Checking the Intel® SSU report, we noticed that the Memory RAM is running at 3600 MT/s and we understand that the memory RAM you're using (G Skill Ripjaws V F4-3600C18D-16GVK) is memory type DDR4.

Please keep in mind that when it comes to using DDR4 memory, the Intel® Core™ i5-12600KF Processor supports up to DDR4 3200MT/s¹.

Also, please note that as per the G Skill website, "reaching the rated XMP overclock speed¹ (3600 MT/s) and system stability depends on the capability of the motherboard & CPU".

Having said that, we recommend testing by disabling Intel® XMP or making sure that the XMP Profile you use doesn't exceed the maximum memory speed supported by both the CPU and the motherboard.

You may also try loading BIOS defaults to undo any recent change in the BIOS settings.

Additional steps that you may try if the behavior persists:

1- We understand that you have reinstalled the operating system (OS) and tested it with the new video card. Just in case, please make sure that the OS is up to date and install any pending updates. Also, check with NVIDIA Support to make sure you have the latest and proper driver version and graphics settings for your video card. (This is in case you haven't tried this yet...)

2- You can try the Troubleshoot blue screen errors guide provided by Microsoft*.

3- Based on the Intel® SSU report, it seems the system is running the latest BIOS version 1.30. However, just in case please check with MSI Support to verify if a new BIOS update is available that may help with this behavior.

4- Test by booting the system using only essential components (motherboard, processor, one stick of memory, video card, one storage drive, and power supply).

5- Run the Intel® Processor Diagnostic Tool to verify that the processor is working fine. To save the report, once the test is done, click on "File >> View Results File" and attach the .txt file to your reply.

6- Run memory tests on the memory RAM sticks. Consult with the memory vendor for a tool and proper steps or you may use a free, standalone memory testing program like Memtest86+*

7- If possible, test with another processor, with other memory RAM sticks, or with another motherboard. (if you don't have access to additional hardware to try this, please let us know...)

Note:

1- Altering clock frequency or voltage may damage or reduce the useful life of the processor and other system components, and may reduce system stability and performance. Product warranties may not apply if the processor is operated beyond its specifications. Check with the manufacturers of system and components for additional details.

Hello Andrew!!

Thanks for replying.

I had run the Mem86 plus tool and you‘ve been totally right. The RAM didn‘t worked that well at 3600MHz. I‘d run both modules by the normal standard speed (it might be 2666 MHz) and both worked without errors. After that run I‘d tested one  of the modules with 3600 MHz and it gave me a lot of errors. At these moment the other module is running at same speed with 3600 MHz but without problems (I set XMP enable in UEFI but in that software it represent 2666 MHz, so don‘t wondering). I guess the other one which I tested first is defect?

My second question is, you mentioned that the i5 12600KF allows max. 3200 MHz but why is that normal that everybody say „turn XMP on“ and by everybody work it fine without problems? I mean I can run an another test with 3200 MHz with both modules but the point is one of them isn‘t running at 3600 MHz and I would say it is probably defect. I‘ll upload picture while both were running at 3600 MHz and there you can see the errors and there are a lot of them. One more picture which the good one ran at 3600 MHz (hope so, because in UEFI I set it and the software represent 2666).

Maybe you can explain it for me what is that word meaning on the left side at my error picture (statistic) „pCPU“?

I also got one more question. If i press the power button on the Mainboard the CPU Led flash red but just in the first 2-3 seconds while booting the system and then it‘s gone. Is that normal?

Well, jump to the point with the Intel Processor Diagnostic tool… it doesn‘t work and stops at Brand string test. But I’ll upload the result. (Also can‘t test other hardware because I don‘t have that possibility to have that much hardware at stock)

So at last would you recommend to send the defect module back and get a new one to run both at 3600 MHz? Otherwise it‘s useless to have 3600 Kit, but one of them is running perfect at 3600 MHz.

Best regards,

Pierre

Hello DonPierre

Thank you for your responses.

In regards to your questions:

1- I guess the other one which I tested first is defect?

We recommend verifying with the memory manufacturer for a proper diagnostic from their side. If further steps are needed, they should be able to route you in the proper direction.

2- Why is that normal that everybody says "turn XMP on“ and everybody work it fine without problems?

Intel® XMP "lets you overclock compatible DDR4 /DDR5 memory modules to enhance the gaming features built into PCs with Intel® Core™ processors", so this may be a "popular" feature among gamers and overclocking enthusiasts...

However, we are transparent that Intel® XMP is a type of memory overclocking, and using it beyond the given specifications may void the processor warranty, may damage or reduce the useful life of the processor and other system components, and may reduce system stability and performance. There is always a risk involved when it comes to overclocking.

For more details, refer to this link: What Is Intel® Extreme Memory Profile (Intel® XMP)?

3- Maybe you can explain it for me what is that word meaning on the left side at my error picture (statistic) „pCPU“?

In this case, our recommendation is to review if there is an option to contact the support team of the Memtest86+ tool or a forum (either a Memtest86+ forum or a third-party forum dedicated to analyzing memory errors/logs) where you can address this concern. You may also check Memtest86+ FAQs.

This is since we don't handle the technical details to debug information from this third-party tool.

4- If i press the power button on the Mainboard the CPU Led flash red but just in the first 2-3 seconds while booting the system and then it‘s gone. Is that normal?

We checked the User's Manual for the motherboard MSI* PRO Z690-A DDR4(MS-7D25) and we couldn't find any information related to this "CPU LED flash pattern". The User's Manual only shows information about the EZ Debug LED (CPU - indicates CPU is not detected or fail). Since there is no information on what the expected "flash pattern" should be (or if it is expected that the LED stays ON), we recommend addressing this question to MSI* Support.

The quick 2-3 flashes could be just part of the initial hardware tests.

5- the Intel Processor Diagnostic tool… it doesn‘t work and stops at Brand string test.

My bad, 12th Gen Processors are not yet supported by the 4.1.5.37 version of the tool. it is an Intel® Processor Diagnostic Tool issue, not a processor issue (we hope a future release will fix it). I apologize for this misunderstanding.

As an alternate diagnostic tool, you may download and install Intel XTU to run a CPU Stress test.

6- would you recommend to send the defect module back and get a new one to run both at 3600 MHz? Otherwise it‘s useless to have 3600 Kit, but one of them is running perfect at 3600 MHz

  • We recommend checking this further with the memory manufacturer so they can provide proper guidance on how to proceed in case it is confirmed that there is an issue with the RAM
  • We only recommend using the components within the technical specifications. For this processor, when using DDR4 memory, we only validate memory RAM supported up to 3200MT/s. You may be able to run at higher speeds; however, we cannot guarantee proper operation when it is used beyond the given specifications and it may void the warranty.

At this point, we recommend you work with the memory manufacturer to determine if you are facing memory issues/defective memory. Please feel free to share the outcome of the steps or any additional feedback.

Hello Andrew!

Thanks for giving me all that informations and answers to my points which I mentioned.

At this time I sent my memory modules back to the memory manufacturer and I am waiting for an answer from their side.

Before I sent the modules back to them, I tested my system only with one module. which worked, and it was quiet nice. My system ran without porblems about couple of hours.

In that case I would wait till I get new one or an answer from their side, after then I‘ll test my system again and give you a feedback.

Best regards,

Pierre

Hello Andrew!

Sorry for answering that late. At this time i built the new RAM modules in the System and tested it again with Mem86+, which ran quit well without problems / errors, and did a CPU stress test with Intel XTU, which also ran well.

I already tested the gaming section and I ain't got problems.

Basically everything works fine and I am happy about that.

At last I just can thanks a lot and I appreciate that you were helping me with my problems!

Best regards,

Pierre
