We recently purchased a Dell Optiplex 980 with an i5 550 dual core processor installed. We're finding that it just isn't giving us quite the horsepower that we were hoping for so we'd like to try swapping out the processor for an i7 870 quad core. Can somebody tell me if these processors can be readily swapped...i.e. if most motherboards support this? Do they have the same size heat sinks, etc.? Dell doesn't seem to be too interested in helping me with this and they've already warned me that it will void the warranty. Just curious if it's even possible.

By the way, I mentioned the i7 870 only because this is one of the CPUs that you can configure this unit with on Dell's site. Perhaps there are other i7's that will work as well.
