Upgrading my Intel Core i3-350m processor

I have a Gateway model nv59c with a 64-bit operating system, and I need to know whether it is upgradeable or not, and of so to what? I have searched my apartment looking for a way to contact the manufacturer for a list, but i cant seem to find a way. Help? Please?

To find out whether or not your laptop can be upgraded with a different processor, both, the BIOS and the board, at least, will need to support it; otherwise, although it may use the same CPU socket, that does not necessarily mean it's compatible. Hence, I'd suggest checking with either your place of purchase or Gateway directly for them to confirm on CPU-board-BIOS (or other aspect the laptop manufacturer confirms as relevant) compatibility. It's possible that you won't get any meaningful CPU support information from Gateway support. In this case you can determine a list of supported processors based on the processors, that were shipped in the laptop:

P6000 was produced only in PGA package, so I think that your 350M is also in the PGA package (please confirm it before buying an upgrade). The fastest on the list is Core i7-620M. Your laptop may also support Core i7-640M. These two CPUs will result in noticable performance boost, up to 30% - 40% in some applications, but they also very expensive.

I tried this , I have flashed to the newest bios from Gatway version 1.23 had the 370m processor moved up to the I7-620m. I could get the processor moving pretty well. but the video performance is terrible. My windows experience score went to a 3. I think it has to do with the higher clock rate for the new chip on the video side or it could be something else. Gatway although has the bios for the I7 does not really have any info to help. Too bad great chip hitting 3 gigs in my turbo. But not real hard ware video compatibility.

May need to check this Gateway for their chipset inf update. Also when you updated the BIOS did you do it with the new processor in the system?

Anyone find a solution to this. I've just done the same thing, and the processor shows in my bios as Geniune Intel 000 2.4Ghz, instead of the i7 it should show.

I've gone through and update to the latest versions of everything

p.s. last bios update i see for this is on 5/23/2011 in both Gateway and Acer
