Video transfer from Sony DV camera will not work on Win11 Gen10 CPU

I am using a DELL G7700 Laptop running Windows 11 (Home ed.) with i7 Gen 10 CPU. The program that I am using is a freeware program called WinDV developed back in late '90's and no longer supported by the creator. It works fine with windows using CPU's 9th generation and older, definitely does not work with Gen12 CPU ( my newer ASUS Desktop win 11, i7).

It works fine on 9th Gen CPUs via Thunderbolt 1, 2, 3 port using "official" Apple dongles (not knock-off's) to convert from mini-IEEE port on Sony Cameras (DV-TRV17) via firewire cables to Apple dongles to Thunderbolt port.

Device manager sees the camera and says it is working, Thunderbolt App sees the Apple hardware and says all is OK, the WinDV program opens OK and says "capturing" when I try to transfer video and audio to Laptop. But the little screen on the WinDV program stays black, the counter does not move, so no audio and video are being captured.

Dell assist says all drivers are up to date, including BIOS. Thunderbolt security in BIOS is set to OFF for my troubleshooting to make sure nothing in Thunderbolt App is stopping the loading of audio and video.

I am a user not a software or CPU expert. People have tried to get this to work with some success using a Thunderbolt Docking station as a "work-around" for their computers using WinDV software program and windows 11, Gen 10 and 11 Laptops. But, starting with Generation12 CPU's Intel has blocked "somehow" the ability to use a TB docking station as a "work-around" for the Thunderbolt port's.

How can I get this to work? Why has Intel blocked using the TB port for Gen 12 and "possibly" Gen 10 and 11? There is an EXCELLENT UTube video authored my Scott Schramm that demonstrates what he has done depicting this problem and work-around. (171) How to use legacy FireWire and Thunderbolt devices on new PC's with Thunderbolt 4 - YouTube

Hello Winterhawk84,

Thank you for posting on the Intel® communities. I am sorry to know that you are having issues with the WinDV application.

In order to better assist you, please provide the following:

1. Can you provide a short video of the issue?

2. What is the exact CPU model that you are using?

3. What is the graphics driver version installed?

4. Did you try a clean install of the intel drivers?

Best regards,

Deivid, I finally received my DELL Thunderbolt 4 docking station, and this worked in being able to transfer my DV tapes to Laptop using the firewire cable, APPLE Dongles to convert from firewire 4 pin to 8 pin to the new Thunderbolt 4 DS. Then from TDS to TB3 port on Laptop. It worked with Gen 10 CPU on Windows 11 Home edition. I have not moved the TDS to the Desktop PC running gen12 CPU yet because I want to get all my tapes transferred first. If I run into a problem, I will open a new thread.

Thank you, I hope my findings will help you and others who might have the same issue.

Richard
