My additional question is: oes sandy bridge chipset e.g HM65 support Ivy Bridge processor e.g i7-3940xm?

In regards to your last question; there were some Sandy Bridge motherboards that supported the 3rd Generation of Intel® Core™ Processors, they required a BIOS update to be compatible; this information is related to the Intel® Desktop Boards and Intel® Desktop Processors.

The processors listed in this thread are http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/processors/000005721.html OEM/Tray processors; therefore, for compatibility information, you may contact the system manufacturers, i.e. Dell, HP, Lenovo, etc.
