Why doesn't my system start up?

Hello I was wondering if you could help me installing my xeon e5 2603 v4 on an Asrock x99 taichi Motherboard.

Do I need to have ECC memory installed in order for the system to work?

I have updated the motherboard's BIOS even due the manufacture set it wasn't necessary in order to get compatibility with Broadwell processor.

The board works just fine with an Intel i7 5820K and when I installed the Xeon didn't start, it didn't give any sings of being alive.

Could you help me please?

Looking forward for you response.

The processor seems to be on the supported list:

https://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/X99%20Taichi/#CPU

Is the processor new or used?

Hello JGiro5,

Thank you for contacting Intel Xeon Community Support.

I was reviewing your thread and I would like to know the following details:

  1. What type of memory RAM are you using? Could you provide us the speed and model?
  2. Is this a brand new processor? Where did you buy the processor?
  3. Have you tried to test the processor into a different motherboard?
  4. Can you share with us a picture of the processor in order to verify the markings and proceed with the warranty verification?

I will be waiting for your outcome in order to proceed with the next step.

Best regards,

Hello thanks for your response. Here is the info: Ram memory: DDR4 Crucial Ballistic Sport Lt 2400 Mhz. It is a brand new processor, it was bought on amazon a while ago along with all the other parts, but I'm a Cuban resident and once I knew it wasn't working it was way to difficult to return the Motherboard or the cpu, but I haven't been able to start up my system with this cpu, so it is new. I haven't been able to try it in a different motherboard. Here I will attach a photo of the processor. Thanks one more time. Looking forward for your response. Hello JGiro5,

Thank you for sharing the information with us.

I would like to ask you for some details in order to have a better understanding of this scenario.

  1. Do you have an additional RAM to test within your system?
  2. Have you ever test the CPU into a different Motherboard?
  3. On your motherboard when you connect the Intel Xeon Processor and start up your system do you have a specific error code?
  4. Whats is the BIOS Version running on your system?

Please let me know the outcome in order to proceed with the next step.

Best regards,

I could try with a Gskill memory.

No, I haven't. Tested the cpu on a different motherboard.

That's the interesting part, the dr debug screen doesn't start up. It remains uncoded. Although the rest of the system seems to start (graphic card, fans)

The Bios version I'm running is p 1.80.

Thank you for your response and help.

Looking forward for your answer.

Hello JGiro5,

Could you please provide me the specifications of the Gskill Memory that you have?

Also, can you test your system with minimal components?

I was reviewing the information about the Intel® Xeon® Processor E5-2603 v4on "ark.intel.com" and according to our website the processor supports the following memory type: DDR4 1600/1866.

You can try testing a memory type supported by the processor in order to verify if the issue is related to the memory.

Does it need to be ECC or Registered Memory for servers? I could try to buy a Gskill 1866 Mhz but it wouldn't be Server memory. Thanks in advance. El lun., 25 de mayo de 2020 2:09 a. m., Intel Forums < supportreplies@intel.com> escribió:

Hello JGiro5,

According to our website the memory supports ECC, however, it will depend on of your motherboard specifications as well.

I was reviewing the website from ASRock of the motherboard you are using: https://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/X99%20Taichi/#Specification and I found the following:

I hope you are going great.

I am following up on your case in order to verify the status of your system?

By any chance, were you able to test the different memory type within your system?

If you have additional details to share with us, I will highly appreciate it in order to proceed with the next step.

Hello JGiro5,

I hope you are doing great.

Our recommendation will be to test the system with minimal components.

If you know a different motherboard compatible with the Intel Xeon Processor, you can try to test the processor in order to verify if the processor is the defective component or not.

Please let us know the outcome in order to verify if there are some additional steps to test.
