Easily half of the Core 2 Duo, i5, and i7 processors listed on retail sites (e.g. newegg) are not shown as having multimedia instructions (SSE, SSE2, etc). Does that really mean that these processors are often made without those multi-media instructions?
If that is true then how, for example, would I choose between an i5 that does have the multimedia instructions (but has a slower clock speed) and an i5 that does not have them (but has a faster clock speed)? In my case, I want to build a media center. I understand that netflix uses silverlight, but I'm not sure how much silverlight needs or uses multimedia instructions (e.g. SSE2, SSE 3, etc).

Hi,
Idoubt very much that an i5 wouldn't teh the SSE, SSE1 ect instructions stes and it hink it is much more likely that the website arn't putting the info there.
To check go to http://processorfinder.intel.com/ and search for the specific CPU you are looking to buy. That will tell you what instructions sets it has.
