Workaround for running Intel Power Gadget on Windows Server 2016

Hi,

I was wondering if there is any workaround for making Intel Power Gadget run on a Windows Server 2016. There is a requirement for CPU power measurement on this machine and there is no alternative for us to move to a different computer (or OS).

Any suggestion in this regard would be helpful.

Thanks in advance.

Hello User_PG,

Thank you for posting on the Intel️® communities.

Regarding your question, the Intel Power Gadget is not supported on Windows Server 2016. The only compatible Windows operating systems are the following:

  • Windows 8*
  • Windows 10*
  • Windows Server 2008
  • Windows Server 2012

If you would like more information about the software and system requirements, please take a look at the following website:

Thanks for that clarification, Jean!

On the other hand, I also have a virtual machine with 64-bit Windows 10 enterprise and 2 Intel Xeon 6154 gold processors (8 cores each).

The Windows version of Intel Power Gadget does not show any trace on this machine either. The log records zeros only.

Any idea why this might be happening?

Any suggestion here would be of great help!

Thanks in advance!

Hello User_PG,

Thank you for posting on the Intel communities.

In this case, it is important for you to know that the Intel® Power Gadget Tool is only supported on Intel® Core processors.

Since you are using an Intel® Xeon processor, the tool is unable to log records and that is why it is showing zeros only.

In this case, please share with us the model of the Intel® Server you are using, also, we have sent you an email to the address you used to register on the community asking for other information.
