Would using two Xeon Gold 5122 (3.6 GHz/105W/4Cores) CPUs out perform the current single processor Xeon E5-2630 v3 @ 2.40GHz? Is this the best CPU option from my limited Datapipe list below:

I realize that's a loaded question and many other components, factors, load, transaction types, etc. determine 'performance'. And performance can be defined in so many - goal drive ways.

Here's the deal: have single co-located server at DataPipe running Sitecore CMS 8.1 on Windows Server 2012. Sitecore licensing limits cores to a total of 8 cores. The current server host 600+ websites and render speed is critical. The suggested 2x-5122 would also come with 128GB RAM, faster drive subsystem, larger cache. The current 2630 (32GB RAM) has 2014 manufacture date, so my simplified assumption and the benchmark below - hopes that by using two 5122 CPUs, new motherboard, etc. will get around a 20%+ improvement in page render speed.

Reads some post where the guru's debate one 8 core on dye vs 2x 4 core and pipeline speeds. So this is where I hope the experts at Intel can give me some basic assumptions that 2x 5122's would be 'faster' that 1 2630.

Note: database server not included in this thread as different part of the same equation and comfortable in it's current role/speed.

Thanks Cindy! Anything that can compare them would be great. My simple goal is to determine if the cost of a 2x-5122's would outperform the 6 year old 2630 and gives us better performance and scale. The dollars aren't important, it's the effort to build out and configure new Sitecore software on the new dual 5122 that takes time/money.

You can compare the compute power of the processors using GFLOPS and the Adjusted Peak Performance (APP), from this link:

We checked the document and both processors are listed.

Additionally, you can confirm with Sitecore to find out if they have benchmark information.

We did find a document that appears to be their tunning guide but it lists the recommended processors based upon the role but it does not list a benchmark result.
