I have been trying to install XTU but every time I try to I get this message

There is a problem with this windows installer package. A script required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vender.

I would just like some help with this.

So the Intel support engineers can have more information about your system, Please download and run the Intel System Support Utility (https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25293/Intel-System-Support-Utility-for-Windows- ) for Windows. Select all data categories and then have it generate a report. Next, have the tool Save the report to a text file (don't try to use the Submit capability; it doesn't work). Finally, using the Drag and drop here or browse files to attach dialog below the edit box for the body of your response post, upload and attach this file to the response post.

I don't think that the system support worked for whatever reason but the file I attached was the only other thing that came with the download after I said yes to it changing my device. let me know if i need to do something different.

Hello killerdrath,

Please let me gather the following details in order for us to further understand the situation. Also, feel free to include additional information you may find relevant that can help us diagnose and identify the issue. Additionally, please be informed that this application is supported with unlocked processors (K- and X-series) only.

Hi killerdrath,

Unfortunately, we are unable to extract your system details from the submitted .zip file for Intel SSU. Both Intel® Extreme Tuning Utility (Intel® XTU) and Intel® System Support Utility should install without issues if you have administrative rights. Kindly check if your BIOS settings are on default and try again. Also, please check Windows 11 Apps > Installed Apps if both Intel XTU and Intel SSU are found. If yes, uninstall both apps and try again. If the issue persists, we would also suggest to consider reinstalling your Windows OS.

Sorry it took so long for me to respond I checked the installed apps and the SSU was installed. I uninstalled it and re installed it and the same thing happed, I don't want to reinstall windows

When I click to open the SSU it pops up asking for privileges and I accept then it goes away and nothing happens.

What's suppose to happen.

Hi killerdrath,

I understand that nothing happens when you click the SSU, ask for privileges, and accept them. Is the SSU application still open on the screen after launching the SSU.exe? Or does it exit? For a complete guide on how to extract the SSU log files, please refer to this link: (https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000057926/memory-and-storage.html). You may directly download the latest version of Intel SSU here: (https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/18377/25293/intel-system-support-utility-for-windows.html), as I noticed that you are using an old version of Intel SSU.

In the meantime, kindly check if your BIOS settings are on default and try again. Also, kindly check the Windows 11 Apps, and go to Installed Apps if both Intel XTU and Intel SSU are found. If yes, uninstall both apps and try again.

Hello killerdrath,

It is a suspected issue with the Windows installer package that prevents the script from running properly. This can happen due to various reasons, such as damaged files, incompatible programs, low memory, driver problems or corrupted Operating system. Even the Intel SSU, is not generating the proper results.

To troubleshoot this issue, please try these steps:

 • Make sure your Windows system and apps are up to date with the latest versions.

 • Run the SFC and DISM commands to scan and repair any system file corruption.

System File Checker (SFC) - https://support.microsoft.com/en-au/topic/use-the-system-file-checker-tool-to-repair-missing-or-corrupted-system-files-79aa86cb-ca52-166a-92a3-966e85d4094e

You may refer to the aticles below for the steps for running Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM): https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000031904/memory-and-storage.html

  1. Run Command Prompt as administrator.
  2. Left-click the Windows Start Menu.
  3. Type Command Prompt.
  4. Right-click the result and select Run as administrator.
  5. To scan the health of the system, type the following command, then press Enter. (It may take several minutes for the command operation to be completed.)
  6. dism/online /cleanup-image /scanhealth
  7. To begin repair of any compromised Windows packages on your system, type the following command, then press Enter. (It may take several minutes for the command operation to be completed.)
  8. dism/online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
  9. If any issues with this process or errors are displayed, visit the Microsoft Windows* support site for more information.
  10. Close the Command Prompt window.

You may also consider this article for running DISM: https://www.makeuseof.com/how-to-use-dism-commands/

You can find more details about this issue in these links.

After performing the steps above, we would recommend considering the reinstallation of your Windows OS.

Hi killerdrath,

I hope you are doing well. After further investigation, unfortunately we are unable to reproduce the issue with our i7-13700KF. However, since the Intel SSU is unable to run a normal report, which means it is affected by the Windows service as well. Since we are unable to collect the logs of your system via the Intel SSU, we would like to request a windows system information screenshot. "A problem with windows installer package" came up in general searches on the web, so it is a general message to some windows installer issue.

Additionally, kindly try the steps below to re-register the Windows installer and restart the Windows Installer service.

Re-register Windows Installer

  1. Press Windows key + R to open Run
  2. Type in 'cmd' and hit the Ctrl+Shift+Enter at the same time. This will open Command Prompt with Administrator permissions.
  3. Enter the following commands
    1. msiexec.exe/unregister then press Enter
    2. msiexec.exe/regserver then press Enter
  4. Close the Command Prompt and check if the installer(Intel XTU and Intel SSU) will install and run properly

Restart the Windows Installer service

  1. Press Windows key + R to open Run
  2. Type in 'services.msc' and click on OK button. This should launch Services, and show every available service of your system.
  3. Look for the Windows Installer service, then right-click on the and select Stop.
  4. Wait for a couple of minutes, right-click on Windows Installer service again and select Start.
  5. Restart your computer and try installing Intel XTU and Intel SSU again.

Let us know the results as soon as you are able if you are able to install the tools properly. If installing the Intel XTU still fails but the Intel SSU was able to generate a proper report. Please share with is the system scan/logs from SSU and we will further investigate the issue.

Best regards,

Jay B.

Hello killerdrath,

Thank you for the update. Since you have tried another processor, please be informed this is mostly like a Microsoft concern when it comes to opening executable files. This is a sign that there is something wrong with the computer's operating system. It's more like of a software issue rather than a hardware issue.

Also you've just mentioned playing Victoria 3, may I know what issues are you facing when trying to run or playing the game? Are you getting any kind of error? Please describe any issues you are having this game.

Additionally, since we are unable to collect the Intel SSU scan, kindly provide your basic system configuration:

  1. Processor/s
  2. OS version installed
  3. Motherboard brand, Model, and BIOS version
  4. Brand and Model of the RAM installed along with the RAM size
  5. GPU installed
  6. File output or screenshot of the MsInfo
