I have an HP dv6-3216us laptop that's 3 yrs. old. I looked up the specs for my processor & found it's a first gen i5 - i5-M480 to be exact. Logo on notebook & Intel specs says this processor is turbo boost capable. I downloaded the XTU Utility to install the .exe but an error message comes up about 1/2 way thru the install telling that the it failed due to "unsupported platform." I don't know exactly what that means. Is it telling me the version of the install file for XTU won't install due to the processor being first gen? I originally tried the latest version (5.1), then v4 & lastly v2. All versions give me the same message. I have chosen the downloads for win 7 64-bit. Any suggestions?

Thanks for joining the Chipset community.
The XTU should be compatible with Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) computers. I understand XTU installs Intel Management Engine components.
Try installing the latest Management Engine from HP site: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-94331-2&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&os=4063&product=5094557&sw_lang= Intel Management Engine Interface (MEI) Driver - HP Pavilion dv6-3216us Entertainment Notebook PC | HP® Support
Also, try the following XTU version: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=23743&lang=eng&ProdId=3483 Intel® Download Center

Thanks for a quick response. However, these two files haven't solved the install problem. I all ready had installed the same MEI driver a couple years ago, but reinstalled it again anyway. After that I tried XTU v4.4 per your link. I still get the same fatal error message -"unsupported platform". Also tried 3 other versions from the links on the HP site, newer & older, all w/ the same results. I note that HP has a bios update for my laptop (IF I can verify compatibility w/ my motherboard). The notes say the fix is for heat management. If you think this may be an important piece of the puzzle, I'll try it once I can find the info the installer is looking for. Don't quite understand the fill in boxes. There are 2 columns - Old Bios and New Bios. I'm supposed to fill in ID and Version for each. How do I get the ID & version on the "New Bios" before I run the installer? And do you think this might create the "supported platform" XTU is looking for?

Thanks for the information.
BIOS update may help on this matter; however, I would recommend contacting http://www8.hp.com/us/en/support.html HP Support, Drivers, Contact and Help Forums | HP® Support for information about what is the exact BIOS version for your computer.

Excuse me, I was trying to speed up a game and an approved way of speeding it up was through nvidia which for some reason I couldn't get onto my computer even though Everything was fine. Honestly today has just been one problem after another. I thought I had to remove intel seeing as nvidia was another graphics thing. Anyways I uninstalled two intel thing 1 was Intel Control Center and the other one was the one directly under it I can't remember. Anyways My computer went black, I had to manually shut it off. After searching the internet for a while I found the download to get control center back... But as usual ANOTHER problem surfaced. Which is the error here about unsupported platform... Please help...

Hi Yuso_Yagari,
Are you running the Intel® Desktop Control Center? The one version is available here https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/18023/Intel-Desktop-Control-Center https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/18023/Intel-Desktop-Control-Center ? Keep in mind that this application was designed to run on Intel Motherboards? What kind of system are you running?
Thanks,

The message you are getting is expected since Intel® Extreme Tuning Utility was intended to be used with systems that have overclocking capabilities; for example, the ones including unlocked Intel® Core processors (which models end in K or X).
I suggest you checking with the system manufacturer for any software utilities that might be provided for your model.
