Z490 Chipset drivers

I and two friends have 3 similar Motherboards (Asus Z490-a) and we have the same problem. The device manager reports failure (missing driver) on PCIE Device and SM Bus Controller and a unknown device.  (ssu output attached) . I have also run the  Intel Driver and Support assistant. The later clearly states that it does NOT include status on Chipset.

I can not find driver software for the Z490 chipset anywhere. Where can I find that ?

Is there any other way of fixing(investigating these issues

Install the chipset inf from ASUS.

Then, install the MEI driver from ASUS.

I have tried that. I have also tried to install the (newer) driver from Intel Pages but the error prevails..

ME_Intel_v14.1.53.1617

Intel ME Consumer Firmware :

Firmware : 14.1.53.1617 [07/02/2021]
Firmware PMC : 140.2.01.1018 [22/02/2021]
Firmware PCHC : 14.0.0.7002 [12/06/2020]
Firmware PHY : 12.14.212.2012 [08/01/2021]

Then:

MEI_Intel_v2108.100.0.1053

Intel Chipset Drivers :

Package : 10.1.18716.8265 WHQL [30/03/2021]

Does not help!

First of all, make sure you have the latest BIOS installed. Latest for Prime Z490-a is available for download here: https://dlcdnets.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/LGA1200/PRIME_Z490-A/PRIME-Z490-A-ASUS-2004.ZIP. If you have different version of motherboard, make sure you have its latest installed.

Secondly, do an overinstall of the latest Chipset Device Software (a.k.a. INF Update) package. You can download it from here: https://dlcdnets.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/03CHIPSET/DRV_Chipset_Intel_TP_W10_64_V101186348254_20210126R.zip. Here are instructions for doing overinstall:

  1. Extract ZIP file to temporary folder.
  2. Open a Command Prompt or PowerShell window. Within this window,
  3. Make the temporary folder the current folder.
  4. Execute command ".\SetupChipset.exe /overall".
  5. Reboot.
  6. Delete temporary folder.

Finally, try installing this Serial IO driver package: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/28103/Intel-Serial-IO-Driver-for-Intel-NUC (I could only find it under the 10th gen NUCs, not the 10th gen processors).

Do you by any chance have a wireless device on your board that you have not installed the packages for?

Hope this helps,

...S

Thank You for your answer Scott!

The latest BIOS was installed!

Secondly, do an overinstall of the latest Chipset Device Software (a.k.a. INF Update) package. You can download it from here: https://dlcdnets.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/03CHIPSET/DRV_Chipset_Intel_TP_W10_64_V101186348254_20210126R..... Here are instructions for doing overinstall:

These drivers are older than the ones referenced in my earlier post so why use them! I tried this but it did not help!

In fact the problem  was in the PCIE drivers and SME Buss drivers I managed to find them with the free version of Driver Easy. What is a little strange is that the problem emerged after a windows update in March and even a full reinstall of windows did not help. After the reinstall a total of 16 driver were out of date

Hello Ole,

Thank you for posting on the Intel® communities.

I would like to let you know that even though the Windows Insider Preview version allows you to get the updates first, this version also can experience more bugs than the regular versions (windows 10 pro, windows 10 home, etc). Remember that Microsoft launched Windows Insider for developers, enterprise testers, and the "technically able" to test new developer features on pre-release software & builds, not given publicly released, to gather low-level diagnostics feedback in order to identify, investigate, mitigate & improve the Windows 10 OS (this is the version that you have based or the report).

If you have issues with the chipset drivers I recommend you to get in contact with ASUS to get the drivers that your motherboard needs and/or install a different windows version.

Also, I will provide you a link where you can get more information and drivers related to your processor:
