i5/i7 will too fast memory cause instability?

As the topic states, will running an i5 at 1600mhz cause system instability (at stock speeds) as the i5 only support up to 1333mhz? From what I've understood the "uncore" (memory controller?) have to be twice the speed of that of the memory. Also, if it does cause instability will all motherboards brands/sockets automatically underclock the memory, or just some of them as I've heard people say it does but when I got my i7 920 I ran my ram at 1333mhz even though "max" is 1066? (Running my i7 overclocked now though so my uncore is set to be faster than my memory.

Thanks all, hope It wasn't too confusing of a read.
