i7-13700KF latest games crash during shader compiling

I just recently took the system in for repair because it was overheating a lot. The issue I have is still happening even though they replaced the cpu cooling which was damaged. Now the cpu is much cooler again but I do feel the chip is damaged still since they didn't replace it.

What happens is when booting up games such as Empire of the ants, or Infinity Nikki which both do shader compiling it often crashes during this and gives the error related to Intel issues. It of course gives a site https://www.radgametools.com/oodleintel.htm. It can take a few tries to get in the game and sometimes it goes straight in without issues. I did have ti crash during the game the other night which never happened yet since I got the computer back.

I found on a post Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool and ran it. In the picture you can see it all passed fine, but the temperatures went up quite a bit especially p-core 5 which is the worst one even before I sent it in for fixing.

Is the chip damaged and needing replacing? The bios is updated to latest but I had the game issues prior to the updating already.

Forgot: Prior to the service a few days ago, the voltage often was 1.4-1.5v. Now it seems it is 1.2-1.4. It also looks like P-core 5 and 4 often jump to about 65ish while I just watching a show or not doing anything.

Hi DragonFlykm,

Thank you for posting in the Community!

I've noticed that you updated the BIOS to the latest however, the issue still persists. This maybe the processor is faulty, do you prefer to proceed our communication via email to further proceed?

I got the store to replace the cpu today with a 14 gen and was refunded the original chip. Funny thing is that we ran the same cpu test on it after changing and it didn't have the same issue as before. But a few cores got hot for a moment. Is this sort of thing normal. I just gonna haft to see how it goes now. I went into Empire of the ants twice without issues so far so hopefully it is all good.

Hi DragonFlykm,

This is well acknowledged. I would like to know the temperature range as well you were experiencing with your system.

The original 13 gen was indead damaged. Since p-core 5 was damaged it kept going to 100 and getting throttled.

As for the new 14 gen, with the test at one point a few cores went to about 97 and 98. I think it was at about 2/3 of the way when it happened. I am thinking it may be due to heat in the shop but it could have been due to the CPU cooling. I wonder if it is sufficient for newer CPUs at the speeds they do. I thinking of asking Corsair if a more expensive one would be better.

So far I don't have any issues with the new CPU. GW2 usually runs at about 50 due to it being 11 years old now. Infinity Nikki goes around 60-65 as it is new. Empire of the ants I not playing but have gone in a few times and no issues since CPU new.

Idle or watching usually under 40 with more towards 30.

Just wanted to post the return for the 13 gen up. It seems it is sent back to Intel for checking.

Hi DragonFlykm,

Thank you for this feedback. I know that cooling is one of the most important aspects on a desktop system. The answer depends on how you use your computer and the performance and workloads you expect to encounter.

This will probably be the last post in this. I just recieved a refund for the 13th gen cpu in my credit card. Intel must of recieved it and are happy with the damaged cpu rma as I knew it would be due to games telling me it is damaged.

The current 14th gen is doing great from what I can tell. It is kinda hot here lately and I have the ac on which helps the computer overall regardless. I have not encountered any issues with games so far either. Infinity Nikki is generally on about 50 for the cores with a max of 84ish on 1 or 2. But the main thing is that unlike the older damaged one, no cores keep increasing in temperature until they need to throttle.

That test I ran at the shop, I don't think it would be an issue for my daily use or games. It may have been the heat for such a high demand part of the test. Brisbane is quite humid at the moment even though summer is basically over.

I will take a look at the page you sent me as it could be useful.
