Hi there,
I own a Dell Vostro 3668, with an Intel i7-7700 CPU, running Windows 10.
The last few months occasionally I experience Windows blue screens (out of the blue) ...
I run various h/w test and I ended up, with the following outcome:
The CPU fails whenever it uses more than two (out of its four) cores.
The steps that led me to this outcome are:
a) When from the BIOS, in the MultiCore support, I check "2 cores", every diagnostic check run smoothly (see below the output of IPDT test. Apart from this, I have also run the DELL's diagnostic tool, and more specifically, the CPU stress script, with the same results).
b) When from the BIOS, in the MultiCore support, I check either "3 cores" OR "ALL cores" then, after a while, the computer crashes and gives a blue screen, and so, no more information regarding the specific failure. Have in mind that it is not a temperature problem, since during the tests, I check the temperature, with a third-party application, which shows no more 73 Celsius. The same output (blue screen) is given from the above-mentioned Dell diagnostic tool.
Last but not least, I have change and use various BIOS versions, in a try to find out if the problem might originate from it, with no success.
Can you please help? Is there any solution, or there seems to be a CPU failure?
Thanks, in advance,
Regards
Aris

Hello Aristos,
Thank you for posting on the Intel️® communities.
I recommend setting the BIOS to defaults and checking your system behavior. If your system still receives Blue Screens and your processor fails the IPDT, it may indicate a problem with the processor. My recommendation is to contact Dell support so they can perform a hardware inspection.
Best regards,

Thanks for your reply.
I have done all the trivial and necessary steps (Bios defaults, etc.) with no luck.
Additionally, I have tried another CPU (I5-7400), with which the PC does not give blue screens.
(Unfortunately, I have not found a compatible MOBO in order to check the current CPU as well).
Thus, no positive answer till now.
I have found various references on relevant forums, mentioning analogous problems with this certain processor.
I will follow your advice and check it with DELL (although I do now that this might end to a "ping – pong" situation).
Regards
Aristos
