i7-8700k Temperature jumps.

Hello,

I'm currently facing an issue regarding temperature with the i7-8700k - On idle my temperatures are low

But as soon as my CPU load gets higher the temperature suddenly jumps.

This is going from 25-30 Degrees one second - I put on Cinebench to increase the load on my CPU - To 70-80 degrees in one second. As soon as Cinebench finishes the temperature drops back down to the low 30's.

I'm using Strix Z370-E Motherboard, NZXT x52 Kraken as my cooler and I have reseated it, reapplying thermal paste and such. Same result as the first time.

Will I be doing damage to my CPU? How do I fix this? Is something broken?

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Hello TriStarz,

Thank you for joining this Intel Community.

According to https://ark.intel.com/, your Intel® Core™ i7-8700K Processor is running within specifications. This means that the temperature reported should not damage the processor or other components in your system. However, keep in mind that you are using 3rd party software, which is also useful, to monitor your system.

In this case, try running the https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/19792/Intel-Processor-Diagnostic-Tool Intel® Processor Diagnostic Tool and attach the report.

To attach a file, you must click "Use Advanced Editor" on the upper right hand corner of the response box, then the "attach" option will appear on the bottom right hand corner of the response box.

Hello,

Thanks for the help, I have attached said file.

But I'm just wondering what causes the temperature to jump from something around 20-30 degrees to 70-80 degrees, when in full load - and then return back to the lower temperatures, within a second, after the CPU's done what it needed to do, Could something be malfunctioning?

Hello TriStarz,

Thank you for your reply.

According to the report attached, your processor is running within specifications, which is good.

The behavior reported is expected. If you are gaming or running demanding software, then temperature may increase. Besides, the processor is capable of generating a fair amount of heat during stress tests.

In this case, you can also verify the fan settings in BIOS. Make sure you contact your system manufacturer before modifying any BIOS settings. Keep in mind that you can also load default values.
