my processor is b960. but I want to install i7-2640m or i5-2450m. Their compatibility with each other, the sockets are the same?

My laptop asus x54c - CPU Mobile DualCore Intel Pentium B960, 2200 MHz (22 x 100)

North Bridge Intel Sandy Bridge-MB IMC -

South Bridge Intel Cougar Point HM65

i7-2640m

i5-2450m

Which of the above processors will suit my laptop?

That's a question for Asus. In order for a processor to be used, it must be socket, motherboard and BIOS compliant. Only Asus can tell you if their motherboard and BIOS are compatible with a particular processor.
