what is the operational temperature for E5-2679v4 and how to maintain it?

Hello,

I have found an offering of E5-2679v4.

It has TDP 200W. However, most of motherboards are "up to tdp 160w", according to specifications, as it seems to me.

I mostly checked supermicro motherboards.

I am just wondering what cooler could you suggest for E5-2679v4?

What is the operational temperature for that CPU?

What motherboards does it fit well?

Thank you

Andrei

According to the cpu specs: the T CASE53°C

There the question emerges: how to maintain it?

Moreover, as per the document https://www.intel.com/content/dam/www/public/us/en/documents/specification-updates/xeon-e5-v4-spec-update.pdf https://www.intel.com/content/dam/www/public/us/en/documents/specification-updates/xeon-e5-v4-spec-update.pdf

It is said that e-5-2679v4 has revision B0. [It is not said that it has not other revisions]

But at the offering I can see such values as Stepping 1 Revision M0.

I am just wondering if the M0 revision and Stepping 1 are fine for OEM CPU's E5-2679v4.

Hi Andrey_nsk,

In regard to your question, I have noted the information available currently at ARK is limited and it is not providing the proper information for the Intel® Xeon® Processor E5-2679 v4.

The thermal solution needs to comply with the Thermal Design Power (TDP). They are designed to dissipate this target power level.

When we are getting a thermal solution for a processor; we need to verify the type of socket of the processor, in this case, we have an LGA2011-3. However, according to my documentation, the current thermal solutions support up to 150W.

In the case of compatibility, every motherboard manufacturer provides the list of processors compatible with each board. It will be necessary to confirm with Supermicro which boards support this processor.

Please allow me 24 to 48 hours to request further information about this special processor to our processor specialist. I will confirm the following:

-Compatible Intel server motherboards

-Availability of higher processor revision

-Suggested thermal solutions

-Confirm processor TDP

Andrey_nsk, I will appreciate if it is possible to send us a picture with the markings of the processor.

Regards,

Miguel C

As a matter of fact, the offering has expired. But I am just curious what motherboard and the cooling system does Intel suggest to use with that CPU.

Thank you.

Miguel,

You wrote "Please allow me 24 to 48 hours to request further information"

"timestamp :18.05.2018 14:58 " .

As for now,

"timestamp : 21.05.2018 2:45",

I can only find the double priced offerings of that CPU :https://item.taobao.com/item.htm?ft=t&spm=a21m2.8958473.0.0.260a4835z5PnkQ&id=562595804450 E5-2679V4 正式版 20核心40线程 2.5G 超2696 2697 2698 2699V4-淘宝网

May be Intel could offer somewhat 50% student/academic discount somehow?

Hi Andrey_nsk,

I appreciated the picture of the processor. Last Friday I sent your question to my processor specialists, they usually answer on 24 to 48 business hours. We hopefully have a response tomorrow.

In regard to the student processor discount, Intel sells its products through Authorized Distributors only. I suggest you visit our retailer websites, they will be offering specials during the upcoming holiday season.

Hi Andrey_nsk,

Thank you for letting me get details of this special processor Intel® Xeon® E5-2679 v4.

This processor was built under our customer requirements; it was sold as an Original Equipment Manufacturer (Tray), so the board manufacturer designed the special cooling solution to support a TDP of 200W.

I have confirmed there is currently only one stepping code, it is B0.

In response to your questions 1- Compatible motherboards, 2 – Thermal Solutions, the processor was built under special requirements and compatible boards and thermal solutions are built by system manufacturer only.

As general information server board manufacturers always provide with the thermal solutions according to the compatible processors.

Regards,
