Altera Debug Client Error

Hello, when I type "make SRCS=.... run " or "make SRCS=.....debug" on the Nios 2 command shell, it always gives the error massege:  

 

There are no Nios 2 CPUs with debug modules available which match the values specified. Please check that your PLD is correctly configured, downloading a new SOF file if necessary. 

 

what is PLD? how can i mend this error? 

 

I'd appreciate if anyone can point me in the right direction.
