Cyclone III Serial FlashLoader

I would like to design my Cyclone III board to use the "Serial FlashLoader" (with a JTAG connector and an serial config device).

The documentation claims you can do it but Quartus (v7.0) doesn't highlite the required megafunction when targeting a Cyclone III.

Has anyone tried this and can verify that it works?

Thanks,

Rob

Other Cyclone III config questions...

1) What's with the diodes and caps on page 10-80 ?

2) Just curious - why doesn't the Cyclone III support PS configuration from a config device?

I believe this feature is available in version 7.1 of the tools.

Give that a try.

Its called the serial flash loader in the megafuction list. See page 7 of AN 370.

I don't think it became available until 7.1 recently when Cyclone III device configuration first became available.

Hi every body,

I want to know how I connect the JTAG to assure the Serial Flash Loader for a CYCLON III FPGA (EP3C25Q240).

I know that I must use the SFL function and connect the M25P16 FLASH RAM like this :

M25p16 EPCS16

C-----------DCLK

D-----------ASDI

Q-----------DATA

S-----------NCS

W-----------VCC (With pullup)

HOLD-------VCC (With pullup)

VCC--------VCC

VSS--------GND

But to program the FLASH via the JTAG ,I don’t know if there is a special connection between the CYCLON III and the M25P16

Thanks

Hello Test_Bench;

Please refer to the document mentioned in the post by Joe D above.

If after reading that, you still have questions post them here if you like.

I believe everything you need to know is in that App Note.

If it is not clear, that can be addressed as well.
