Hello Everyone,
Could anyone please shed some light on Altera's FPGA to ASIC conversion process. I am trying to find out a rough estimate of NRE cost and typical cost reduction out of it. Thanks in advance!!Link Copied

you really should get in contact with your local Altera distributor
a high level overview, the Altera HardCopy family is a structure ASIC that is pin compatible with the high end Stratix family. normally you will start off with an FPGA on board. once the FPGA design is finalized, you work with Altera on the HardCopy conversion. in parallel, you might start shipping product with an FPGA on the board. when your HardCopy starts shipping, you can transition over to the custom chips- Mark as New

Hi thepancake,
Thanks for the advise. The FPGA design is pretty mature and it uses a Cyclone family device. I am wondering if Cyclone family can also be ported into an ASIC or is this only specific to Stratix. I have a query into Altera also. Other semiconductor companies (e.g. On Semi) offer these services but I have no clue on how much will it cost. Thank You- Mark as New

As far as I understand, only for Stratix families.

Altera Hardcopy is only for Stratix
if your volumes are that high, you should definitely talk to your distributor/Altera- Mark as New
