Hello,
The company where I work purchased a perpetual Quartus license in 2016. I assume it is not linked to the self-service licensing centre.
In 2021, we got an additional license file for an additional computer (I don't know if it was purchased then or if there were a two-place license already before). Some way, later, the second license file must have been lost by hazard, probably while updating other IP licenses for Quartus. I was able to compile unrestricted Cyclone V designs including NIOS II in 2021, but I am not anymore now. Because I was still able to generate Cyclone V designs without NIOS II, and not all our designs include NIOS II, we did not notice this change until shortly.
How can I renew the second license, replacing the lost file?
If you give me a confidential contact, I can supply the company information etc. and a copy of the relevant lines from the license file of the other computer, still being in use.
Thanks in advance
Thomas

Hi
Apologize for the inconvenience and delay in response since I was out of office recently.
- Is "one" license for IPS-EMBEDDED (approx. 1000$) valid for the whole company or just for one Workstation?
The "one" license has 2 types, floating and fixed. Depend on license type customer use. Fixed license is for 1 device per use (tie to one device). Floating licenses depend on number of seat that customer buy. no limitation on number of seats that customer can purchase.
- IPS-EMBEDDED is included in Quartus Prime Standard. Is it also included in Quartus Prime Lite?
The IPS-EMBEDDED is referring to (Nios® II Embedded Design Suite) only. Can refer here https://www.intel.com/content/dam/www/central-libraries/us/en/documents/quartus-prime-compare-editions-guide.pdf sorry if the statement confused.
Hope this clarify. Thanks

Hello,
There is self service licensing center here : https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/programmable/licensing/support-center.html
You can get the license from this portal.
regards,
Farabi

Hello Farabi
Thanks so far, but there remain some troubles. There seems to be a misunderstanding on my side: I thought the company has purchased the NIOS II IP. However, my colleague told me now that he thinks that was included with Quartus Prime Lite Edition. So I tried to generate a license in the self-service center.
However, how do I find the license for NIOS II IP? According to the license file of my colleague, it is called shortly "Embedded IP Suite" and it is described as "license file for the Altera Embedded Suite which inlcudes Nios II Soft Processor MegaCore,Triple Speed Ethernet MAC, DDR2 SDRAM Controller supporting ALTMEMPHY, DDR3 SDRAM Controller supporting ALTMEMPHY, and new 16550 UART."
I just tried the "Intel® FPGA IP IP-NIOSVM", but it turned out to be for NIOS V M core, not for NIOS II.
**** How do I get the license for NIOS II IP and the associated "Embedded IP Suite"? ****
Regards,
Thomas
By the way, there is also the technical problem on www level (it was described similarly by someone else in the support forum): when I go to https://licensing.intel.com which gets soon modified to https://licensing.intel.com/psg/s/, and later to https://licensing.intel.com/psg/s/?language=en_US (despite I am not in USA, but attempts to change it to an appropriate geographic region are successful for a short time only, then it falls back to USA, even when I am continuously logged in -- but I hope that is not a relevant issue), Mozilla Firefox 103.0.2 (64 Bit) gets trapped in a loop of loading the page, clearing it, loading it again etc. At least, up to now, Microsoft Edge 104.0.1293.54 (64-Bit) does not show this behaviour. Hope I don't need to try another browser every new day...

Alternative you could apply an Intel 90-Day Evaluation License that come with NIOS ll. Login to Intel® FPGA Self Service Licensing Center and request the Quartus evaluation free license here https://licensing.intel.com/
1) Go to Sign up for Evaluation or Free licenses
2) Select Intel® FPGA EVALUATION-LIC
3) # of Seats is always 1
4) Check the T&C box
5) Add the required options
6) Click Get License button
The license will be sent to email that you register with

Hello AR_A_Intel
For a short-term solution, I tried the proposed FPGA EVALUATION-LIC. It was successful for the Nios II, however, I still miss the TSE! Ok, for the moment, we can share the one machine with valid license. A longer-term solution must provide two independent workstations.
In the meantime, I found that the company bought IPS-EMBEDDED for approx. 1000$ years ago. (My colleague was convinced that it was included for free with some other software.) However, you @AR_A_Intel claimed here community.intel.com/t5/Intel-FPGA-Software-Installation/Type-of-license-for-Quartus-Prime-Embedded-IP-Suite-Development/m-p/1348254#M3500 that "IPS-EMBEDDED (Nios® II Embedded Design Suite) included with all QUaetus edition and no additional licenses are required."
Is that true for Quartus Prime Lite too?
Are the licenses per company or per workstation?

An automatic e-mail message invited me to mark the accepted answer. But I am sorry, my problem is partly solved only. Has someone good answers to the remaining questions (from my message 08-18-2022

Hello AR_A_
Thanks for the clarification. The document here https://www.intel.com/content/dam/www/central-libraries/us/en/documents/quartus-prime-compare-editio... really says that the IPS-EMBEDDED is "supported", not "included", by the Quartus Prime Software.
I mark your last answer as "Accepted", but actually, it is not the answer to my original question -- that is because my original question was based on completely wrong assumptions. Now everything is clear!
We have two buy another license to use it on an additional device, because our original license is a fixed one.

Thomas
