How to program a Cyclone III from Windows 11

Hello,

I've recently upgraded my PC to Windows 11.

The only available 'Quartus II web edition' versions that I see in the Intel website are '13.1' and '13.0sp1', but both are failing to program my FPGA.

Is there any method that can allow me to program my Cyclone III from Windows 11?

I am completely blocked by this..

Hi,
I read your post so that you succeeded in running Quartus 13 on Windows 11, can generate programming files but fail to download it with Quartus Programmer under Windows 11. If so, you can use a recent Quartus Programmer version. If the problem is different, please clarify.

Hello FvM,

I am not generating program files, I'm only using quartus to program my FPGA (Cyclone III ) with existing files.

The problem is that the new Quartus version does not support this FPGA generation.

Do you know if there is an older Quartus version that supports both Cyclone III and Windows 11?

If so- how can I get it?

Hi,
apparently you did not try to use a recent Quartus Programmer version to send your existing configuration files to Cyclone III as suggested. Please give it a try.

Hi, from my 1st note :

The only available 'Quartus II web edition' versions that I see in the Intel website are '13.1' and '13.0sp1', but both are failing to program my FPGA.

(Please also see snapshot attached.)

Is there any other program that I need to download in order to program my FPGA?

Hi,
as stated, use a recent Quartus Programmer version, e.g. Intel Quartus Prime Programmer 24.1std.0.1077.
It comes with Windows 11 compatible USB Blaster driver and still supports all Cyclone devices and even older CPLDs like MAX3000.

P.S., here's the link

Just in case you want to install the old version of Quartus 13.1. You may need to refer to the readme file for the supported OS:

System Requirements

===================

Operating system support

------------------------

* Windows 7 (64 and 32 bit)

* Windows XP SP2 (64 and 32 bit)

* Windows XP Pro X64 Edition

* Windows Server 2008 R2 (64 bit)

* Windows 8 (64 bit)

* Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 (64 bit)

* Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 (64 and 32 bit)

Thanks

I still need to test Quartus Prime as @FvM suggested.

I will only have access to my FPGA next week so I will update then .

Can we leave this thread open for now  ?
