MAX 3000A EPM3256ATC144-10N vs MAX V 5M1270ZT144 (Size comparison)

Hello,

Our hardware group is reimplementing an existing design.  They decided to change some CPLDs from a MAX 3000A EPM3256ATC144-10N  to a MAX V 5M1270ZT144.

I am going to add a 16-bit pulse counter plus some other logic to the existing CPLD logic, so I am trying to ascertain how much bigger the MAX V is than the MAX 3000A part.  I only have a images of the existing CPLD logic so I am not sure how much space the existing design uses.

Here is what I know:

MAX 3000A
--------------
16 LABs
16 LABs * 16 Macrocells/LABs = 256 Macrocells

Macrocell has 5 input product terms and a clocked register

MAX V

--------
127 LABs
127 LABs * 10 LE/LABs = 1270 LE

LE has a 4 input LUT and a clocked register

The MAX V seems to be significantly larger, especially given each LE has a LUT.

am I correct?  How much larger is it?

Thanks,

Stephen

Hello,

For your information, The EPM3256ATC144-10N has around 2500 logic elements while 5M1270ZT144 has 12000 logic elements. So 5M1270ZT144 is significantly larger than EPM3256ATC144-10N.

Hope that answers your question.
