Hello,
Can I program this kit's FPGA using a .sof file or do I need to first generate a .flash file? Please include instructions if a .sof file is sufficient. Thanks.

All FPGAs can be programmed with a .sof file via the JTAG interface, either JTAG directly or usually using JTAG to USB conversion (USB Blaster). You just use the standalone Programmer or the Programmer included with a full installation of Quartus.

Thanks.
I'm using the Arria 10 GX FPGA Development Kit (DK-DEV-10AX115S-A) and trying to configure its FPGA (10AX115S2F45I1SG) with a .sof file and a USB Blaster cable. I get this:
Error (209015): Can't configure device. Expected JTAG ID code 0x02E660DD for device 1, but found JTAG ID code 0x020A30DD. Make sure the location of the target device on the circuit board matches the device's location in the device chain in the Chain Description File (.cdf).
The FPGA listed on the device search of Quartus Prime Standard 23.1 gives the 10AX115S2F45I2SGES as being installed on the kit board:
Which device part number should I be using, 10AX115S2F45I1SG or 10AX115S2F45I2SGES? What is the cause of the error? Thanks.

Did you auto select the device in the Programmer or manually select it? Try manually selecting the device.
And show a screenshot of what the Programmer is showing you.

I've selected both devices (different compilations) and selected the devices manually in the Programmer. Programming fails with either compiled .sof file.
Here's the programmer and error message with 10AX115S2F45I2SG selected:
Error (209015): Can't configure device. Expected JTAG ID code 0x02E660DD for device 1, but found JTAG ID code 0x020A30DD. Make sure the location of the target device on the circuit board matches the device's location in the device chain in the Chain Description File (.cdf).

Any ideas? Thanks.

Hi,
The part number should be 10AX115S2F45I1SG.
https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/details/fpga/development-kits/arria/10-gx.html
- Do you used .sof file for 10AX115S2F45I1SG?
- When you click auto detect, what is showing? Kindly provide screenshot.
- Can you also try the JTAG chain debugger and provide screenshot here?
- Does this ever work before?
- Have you followed the userguide for the dev kit?

Aiman

The error description I'm getting is this:
Error (209015): Can't configure device. Expected JTAG ID code 0x02E660DD for device 1, but found JTAG ID code 0x020A30DD. Make sure the location of the target device on the circuit board matches the device's location in the device chain in the Chain Description File (.cdf).
Code 0x020A30DD is for a 5M1270Z MAX V device. This is not the device I selected for the file (10AX115S2F45I1SG) and doesn't appear to be anywhere on the Arria 10 GX FPGA Development Kit I'm using. How is the programmer finding this?

Hi,
Since you are using dev kit, there is a switch to disable the MAX V on the dev kit. Please disable the switch and try to configure again.
Please also try the JTAG chain debugger after disable MAX V.

Hi,
I've put development board switch SW4-2 in the ON position to disable the MAX V in the JTAG chain as described in the kit user guide:
However, the programmer still fails to configure the Arria 10:
Error (209015): Can't configure device. Expected JTAG ID code 0x02E660DD for device 1, but found JTAG ID code 0x020A30DD. Make sure the location of the target device on the circuit board matches the device's location in the device chain in the Chain Description File (.cdf).
And the MAX V still shows up in the JTAG chain:
Any ideas? Thanks.

Hi Aiman,
Here are the board's SW3-SW6 switch positions. SW4-2 is in the ON position yet the MAX V device is still in the JTAG chain. Can you provide any further assistance? Thanks.

Just for shiggles, how about flipping SW4-1 and SW4-2 to their opposite positions and see if there's a change in the JTAG chain?

Tried it. Programming still fails and same error message.

But does the JTAG chain appear differently in either the Programmer or the JTAG Chain Debugger?
