USB Blaster selection criteria

I am looking for a USB Blaster that is compatible with Altera MAX CPLDs and would appreciate some guidance on which one to choose. Specifically, I am considering:

  1. Terasic USB Blaster
  2. Wave Share USB Blaster (Rewritten version)

Note: I have encountered issues with the cheaper version of the USB Blaster, as it never worked properly.

You have now asked the same question in five different posts in this forum. Please stop. One post should have been enough.

As I said in the other post, the TerAsic USB Blaster works well with Quartus and Altera devices. It is a solid choice.

It is what I have used on Win 7 and Win 10 (I don't use Win 11) and have had no problems using it.

Hi,

I completely agree with _AK6DN_ about using supported programming cables like Terasic USB Blaster.

Nevertheless Waveshare USB-Blaster V2 seems to be one of the few devices that are fully compatible with original USB Blaster by using a genuine FTDI FT245 chip.

Frank
