Hard drive unallocated after a Raid 0 interrupt

Hi,

I apologize in advance if my english isn't good enough

I have faced a power failure while proceeding to a RAID 0 Volume for 2 hard drives (one was running the OS, the other was having only data). As a result since it was interrupted during the process, i need to have both hard drives connected now in order to boot my OS but i can't access to the second hard drive, which is showing as unallocated in disk management.. Intel RST sees the volume as normal, the verify is showing everything is ok (http://hpics.li/1f270ac http://hpics.li/1f270ac )

The only option offered is to format this unallocated hard disk to be able to use it again but i'd like to recover my data but no chance despite several recovery software tools used..

I was wondering if there is a way to restore, rebuild this raid 0 attempt from where it was interrupted in order to be able to access this hard drive again without formatting it..

I only had some negative answers so far stating that your data is lost, no way to recover etc.. so if you have different views or suggestions here, please let me know, thanks in advance for your help .

Below is the system report:

Hi, pha_dee, Thank you very much for joining the Intel® Rapid Storage Technology communities.

In regard to your inquiry, from our side we can confirm that the combination of hardware and software that you are using is not supported, according to our documents the RST version 15.2.0.1020 supports Windows® 10 but it does not support the chipset your computer has which is Intel® H57, you can verify the chipset model here, under the Video graphics tab

https://support.hp.com/rs-en/document/c02674320 https://support.hp.com/rs-en/document/c02674320

And on the link below you can see the Intel® chipsets supported by RST 15.2.0.1020:

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26361/Intel-Rapid-Storage-Technology-Intel-RST-?product=55005 https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26361/Intel-Rapid-Storage-Technology-Intel-RST-?product=55005

So, the best thing that we can recommend, will be to get in contact with a technician or with a PC repair store close to you in order to check if they can recover the data from the RAID 0, since there was a power failure we do not recommend to try to manipulate the hard drives any further.

Any further questions, please let me know.

Regards,

Alberto

Hi Alberto,

Thanks for your quick answer,

Actually the RAID 0 attempt was done under Windows 7. I'm a bit surprised that this combination wouldn't be supported here since the Intel RST was pre-installed by default with the PC config and the Windows 7 OEM image.

Also per the HP link you shared it is indicated that : Integrated Intel H57 / *Integrated video is not available if a graphics card is installed.

I am not pretty sure of the meaning and how to interprete this but since i have a NVIDIA GeForce 405 graphic card, my understanding is that the intel chipset for the video card is not in use here.

Hi, pha_dee, You are welcome. That RST version was pre-installed using Windows® 7 OEM image because that version is fully compatible with Windows® 7, but it is not compatible with Windows® 10.

Also, you are correct, one thing is the chipset and a different thing is the graphics controller. The Intel chipset is not use for video, the graphics part is supported by the NVIDIA GeForce 405 graphic card, but the Intel® H57 chipset is the one that controls the SATA ports on your computer that are directly related to the RST application since the hard drives are connected to them, that is why the RST version that will be installed on this platform needs to be fully compatible with that chipset.

Any questions, please let me know.

Hi Alberto,

Thanks for the explanation regarding the role of the chipset.

But i'm a bit confused about what is fully supported in Windows 7, do you mean the combination of RST + the INtel chipset + windows 7 ? If yes, could i have attempted something to fix my issue when the PC was, running Windows 7 ? I tried several things when running windows 7 in vain, then i upgraded to windows 10.

And what is meant by fully compatible ? The software seems as operational (exactly same displays, outputs, options) with Windows 10 like it was the case with windows 7.

Hi, pha_dee, You are welcome. Yes, that is correct, the combination of RST, chipset and Windows version needs to be fully compatible for the application to work properly. The RST might work on Windows® 10, but errors and inconsistencies are expected since it was not design to work on that environment.

For that same reason, based on the system that you are using, we recommend to use Windows® 7, and as an option you can try to get into disk management and give a format to the hard drive, because when a power failure happens the format of it might get corrupted, now this is just a suggestion, we cannot guarantee it will work for sure and that the data will be recovered, the option of getting in contact with a technician might be the next thing to do, please follow the instructions from where it says "Creating and formatting a new partition or volume":

Hi alberto,

Thanks for your answers, i guess i'll have to bring both hard disks to the technician then since the files that were initially on a single disk are now somehow at least partially splitted between the 2 hard disks.

Wee can close that conversation then..
