Odd behaviour of RAID managed by RSTe

Hi

We have a Windows 2016 server with 6 drives (8Tb) each –set up into a single volume with "RAID5 with parity" configuration using the Intel Rapid Storage Technology enterprise.

The server runs on SuperMicro motherboard X100RG-Q (Bios version 3.1)

1. Recently it reported a failure of one of the drives. Around same time we observed some of the files on the disk to be corrupted.

For example .csv files contain gibberish unreadable rows etc.

There are around 65535parity errors reported in the RSTe software.

2. Also oddly the total volume of RAID is reduced to around 36Tb rather than 40 as per RAID size calculator.

3. We also see an Unknown disk (7th after we inserted a new drive to repair the RAID) with an uknown port.

Why do we see data corruption?

Is there any way to fix it?

How can we get rid of the "unknown disk"?

How can we restore the proper RAID size (40Tb)

Thank you so much in advance for you help!

Hello bmyury,

Thank you for posting on the Intel® communities.

In order to better assist you, please provide the following:

1. Run the Intel® System Support Utility (Intel® SSU) to gather more details about the system.

· Download the Intel® SSU and save the application on your computer: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/18377/intel-system-support-utility-for-windows.html

· Open the application, check the "Everything" checkbox, and click "Scan" to see the system and device information. The Intel® SSU defaults to the "Summary View" on the output screen following the scan. Click the menu where it says "Summary" to change to "Detailed View".

· To save your scan, click Next and click Save.

2. Can you take pictures of the errors at the Intel® Rapid Storage Technology (Intel® RST) tool?

3. Can you provide the Intel® Rapid Storage Technology (Intel® RST) version?

4. Are you using the driver from Intel or SuperMicro?

5. What is the brand and model name of the drives used?
