RST 17.7.1.1010 and Samsung SSD

Trying to upgrade driver for Samsung SSD and failing.  Samsung Magician shows current driver as Intel 17.7.1.1010.  Windows 10 shows it as Windows Driver.

Question 1.  Which is correct? Is the Intel a piece of management software on top of the Windows driver? or the actual driver.  Is the Intel RST compatible with Samsung drivers?

Question 2. Is there a process required to remove the RST, or can it just be deleted while I continue attempt to upgrade driver.  (Windows SSD driver hasn't been updated in years.)

If you are not using RAID and you are not using Optane, then you do not need RST at all. You can simply remove the driver package and all associated software. Look for an entry in the Apps and Features applet that you can use to remove the package.

After doing this, you will need to do the following:

1. During the subsequent reboot, go into BIOS Setup and change the SATA Mode parameter from the current RAID/Optane setting to the standard AHCI setting.
2. After saving the BIOS configuration change and exiting BIOS Setup, use the F8 key to boot into Windows in Safe Mode.
3. Once Windows has successfully booted into Safe Mode and you have logged in, to a Shutdown/Restart.
4. Let Windows boot normally.

You should now be able to proceed with the installation of Samsung Magician and, if you wish, Samsung's Storage Driver. I would add, though the latter will not, AFAIK, provide you with any higher performance from your drive.
