Unable to Initialise RAID in Intel Rapid Storage Technology

I have a computer with a Gigabyte X58A-UD7 motherboard and I had a 4x1TB RAID5 array but was running short of space. I replaced the 1TB disks with 3TB Hitachi Deskstar 7K3000 (HDS723030ALA640) disks.

Now the Status screen in the Intel Rapid Storage Technology software shows the disks as OK but does not offer me an option to initialise a RAID array (Create a new Volume). If I try to setup the RAID in BIOS it shows the disks as 750GB and if I set an array up as that, it has no effect anyway.

The RAID driver and Intel Rapid Storage technology are up to date. I am using Windows 8 64-bit.

Any suggestions? Am I missing something? Does this indicate the disks are not compatible? A Windows 8 problem maybe?

OK, I'm pretty sure I just need to update the BIOS.
