Where are the Intel Rapid Storage drivers that support ICH8M?

I'm trying to upgrade a Dell Vostro 1400 laptop with a new SSD. The laptop has the Intel PM965 Express Chipset with the 82801HBM I/O Controller Hub (ICH8M). I'd like to use the latest Intel drivers for this SATA AHCI controller since they support the TRIM command under Windows 7.

According to several pages on the Intel Support website, including http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/imsm/sb/cs-020644.htm this one, the Intel Rapid Storage drivers should support this chipset. However, the only versions I'm presented in the download center when I navigate to Chipsets > Chipset Software > Intel Rapid Storage Technology are v10.8.0.1003 which doesn't support ICH8M, and v8.8.0.1009 of the legacy Intel Matrix Storage Manager driver, which doesn't support TRIM.

I know from other threads in this forum that older versions of the Intel Rapid Storage drivers supported ICH8M, but I can't find them in the download center. /message/144129# 144129 This thread from just a few months ago even includes a link (now dead) where the can supposedly be found in the download center.

I've tried the automatic driver update utility, but it doesn't seem to proceed past the "Loading" animation.

What happened to these older versions? Why are they no longer available from the download center? What's the latest version of this software that supports my chipset? Where can I download it from an official source?

Hello,

You can download the Intel(R) Rapid Storage Technology 9.6 available from the following site:

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=15251&keyword=9.6&DownloadType=Drivers&lang=eng http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=15251&keyword=9.6&DownloadType=Drivers&lang=eng

This version should be compatible with the I/O controller on your computer. You can also check on your computer manufacturer's web site for drivers and applications for the computer you have.

Those drivers appear to be specifically for Intel desktop motherboards. Are there drivers available for laptop boards? For instance I'm trying to upgrade a Sager NP5793 (basically a Clevo M570RU). Based on that page, I'd assume the drivers won't work in my case.

Thanks for any clarifications.

I understand the confusion since the download site refers to some Intel(R) Desktop Boards, however this is a unified driver that provides drivers and support for either desktop and mobile platforms. You may confirm this in the readme file of the F6 drivers that are posted on that site.

So, in this case you can use the version that is posted there with no issues.

I have the Intel 82801HBM ICH8-M. I recently switched from raid 1 to raid 0 and was looking to switch back to raid 1, however I can't seem to find a way to do it in the Intel Rapit Storage Technology software. Change type showed before, however is no longer showing. Also, I read somewhere that this interface is 3Gb/s, yet my motherboard says is 6Gb/s ready. I am wondering what do I need to do to take advantage of the 6Gb/s max transfer rates as I have a couple of SSDs coming my way.

Wilbert, your ICH8-M chipset only provides a SATA 3Gb/s interface. Your mother board must provide the SATA 6Gb/s interface with another chipset, such as one made by Marvell, JMicron, or ASMedia. Any of these SATA 6Gb/s chipsets are separate from the Intel and cannot be used with it to create RAID volumes. Some of the Marvell chipsets provide RAID, but you'll need to check your boards manual to see if you have that capability.

Only a few RAID migrations are supported by Intel RST. Migrating from RAID 1 to RAID 0 is not supported. You can find the possible RAID migrations for your chipset here:

Hi there,

So I backed up my data, plugged in my SSD's, created a new array with Raid0 and later restored my computer from a Windows Back up I created prior to the former.

I am a little confused as the above suggests that my disks are connected with a 6Gb/s interface and working in RAID 0 with the Intel Software. I did benchmarking tests and the max read write tests are on the 1000mb/s surroundings.

Does that mean they are actually running through a 6Gb/s channels, or are they running on 3Gb/s channels and the fact that they are in RAID0 allows them go reach those speeds.

Regards,

Wilbert
