X11DPG-SN (https://www.supermicro.com/en/products/

Hello !
My task is to build a cluster of GPU servers
For example, I decided to choose the 1029GP-TR platform with a motherboard based on the C621 chipset and Xeon 6230 processors.
The motherboard has 16 memory slots, but the processor has only 6 channel memory.
From the technical documentation for the motherboard we see the following remark « 2 CPUs & 14 DIMMs (Unbalanced: not recommended)» « 2 CPUs & 16 DIMMs"(Unbalanced: not recommended)»
I met this comment not only with supermicro but also with other manufacturers.
Why do manufacturers install 7-8 slots for RAM? if the controller in the scalable / scalable gen 2 series processors has a 6 channel memory finder.
I often have the task of creating a server with a terabyte of RAM, it is preferable to use modules of 64 gigabytes (so much cheaper), but I do not know if it is worth using them in "Unbalanced" mode.

Hello TAHUGAVA,
The Intel® Xeon® Gold 6230 Processor has a max memory size of 1 TB and indeed comes with 6 max memory channels, you can find more information here:
https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/products/192437/intel-xeon-gold-6230-processor-27-5m-cache-2-10-ghz.html
Now, we can not tell why the manufacturer installs 7-8 memory slots, this information should be addressed with the system manufacturer.
Best regards,
Sergio S.

Hello!
Please tell us why the Intel Server Board S2600 family of motherboards uses 8 memory slots. (https://www.intel.com/content/dam/support/us/en/documents/server-products/server-boards/Intel_Server_Board_S2600BP_and_Compute_Module_HNS2600BP_Product_Family_TPS.pdf)
The technical documentation does not mention that the mode using all 16 pots is not balanced, but I'm interested in the architectural solution of this approach.
If I use the memory in the format there (16 slots), one of the channels will be 2 times larger than the others, and I will have to make changes to the orchestra.

Hello TAHUGAVA,
Since your question is related to a server board product we are going to continue working on a different case, and we are going to close this thread unless you have more questions on your Xeon processor.
