Just got this (very nice) 16-drive capable card, and thought I would pair it up with 6 of the new Hitachi Deskstar Sata3 3tb drives.
No problem detecting the card or working my way through creating a Raid6 array, but the 3tb drives only showed up as 2tb each.
I expected the drives (not for O/S at all, simply storage with MS SBS2011 Essential Svr) to show up in all their splendour.
Just checked the Card during a reboot...
BIOS: MT33 (Oct 24 2007)
Firmware Package Version: 7.0.1.0075
Firmware Version: 1.12.280.0826 (Mar 18 2010)
Hope the extra info helps... Would appreciate any guidance please.

I think the card might only support up to 2TB - I looked at the tested list at http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/server/srcsasph16i/sb/CS-028825.htm http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/server/srcsasph16i/sb/CS-028825.htm, and there's nothing bigger than 2TB listed.

Thanks Dan
I figured that might well be the case. Would it be worthwhile (and how would I) making contact with Intel directly to see if that actually is the case?
I wonder what the chances are of Intel creating an updated firmware version that brings the card up to current drive tech?

Bruce,
The SRCSASPH16I uses the LSI Logic* SAS 1068 eight-port controller. The LSI 1068 has a hardware limitation at 2TB, there is no way around it. The 1078 or 2108 ROC chips or 2008 SAS chip will support disk capacities well above 2TB.
Regards,
John

Thanks John
Looks like I might have to be upgrading a lot sooner than I anticipated.
Thanks
