Hello carstens007,

I am afraid I was unable to locate how to access the BMC Debug Log using the command line.

I am going to double check and provide you with a final answer.

Could you please help me with a model number of a Server where you want to access the BMC Debug Log using the command line

If there is anything else we can help please feel free to ask.

Best regards,

Hello carstens007,

I am afraid the BMC Debug Log can only be view and retrieved by using the System Event Log (SEL) Viewer Utility for Intel® Server Boards.

Hello Henry,

thank you for your reply, sorry for the late reply, I was off the last week.

From the manual and listed outputs, the SEL viewer utility is only giving the System Event log output, I can collect this with

ipmitool like

# : ipmitool -I lanplus -H -U sel list

Password:

1 | 02/15/2018 | 11:18:15 | Event Logging Disabled # 0x07 | Log area reset/cleared | Asserted

2 | 02/16/2018 | 12:52:01 | System Event # 0x83 | OEM System boot event | Asserted

3 | 02/19/2018 | 08:57:39 | System Event # 0x83 | OEM System boot event | Asserted

4 | 02/19/2018 | 09:02:28 | System Event # 0x83 | OEM System boot event | Asserted

5 | 02/19/2018 | 10:22:42 | System Event # 0x83 | OEM System boot event | Asserted

6 | 02/21/2018 | 09:51:25 | System Event # 0x83 | OEM System boot event | Asserted

7 | 02/26/2018 | 20:35:35 | System Event # 0x83 | OEM System boot event | Asserted

9 | 04/08/2018 | 13:46:12 | Voltage # 0xd0 | Upper Critical going high | Asserted

a | 04/08/2018 | 13:46:12 | Voltage # 0xd0 | Upper Non-critical going high | Deasserted

b | 04/08/2018 | 13:46:12 | Voltage # 0xd0 | Upper Critical going high | Deasserted

c | 05/20/2018 | 08:11:24 | Version Change # 0x12 | | Asserted

d | 05/20/2018 | 08:12:45 | Version Change # 0x12 | | Asserted

When I'm talking about the "BMC Webconsole's debug logfile" I mean files named like

DebugLogs_20180525_105749.zip containing encrypted files SystemBMCDebugLog.zip.encrypted SystemDebugLog.zip

which you get when you click on the BMCs webinterface under Server Diagnostics > System Diagnostics > under the

text:

"Log files should be sent to your system manufacturer for analysis"

the , producing the above mentioned zip file which you can download then from the BMC via a new link created on that System Diagnostics page.

I would assume that these zipped files contain all BIOS etc configs and hardware information besides the SEL about the system, making it easier for our vendor to identify hardware problems. So to troubleshoot issues we collect information like SEL via ipmitool and system logfiles, and when identifying possibly a hardware issue we then would send all information to our hardware supporter, preferably including this by our supporter. BTW, why is the file encrypted, what is the password for us to check?

Thank you.

Regards,

Carsten
