I have just gotten this motherboard and have 8gb of 1x8 fb-dimms ddr2 and dual quad xeon e5345 chips, I can't seem to get grub to work on this system while lilo and freebsd's boot loaders work, does any one else have this problem. Also has any one managed to get Solaris 11 working on this motherboard s/and/or processor combo. I'm kinda puzzeled to why it wont start, as it gives me no error codes or output to work with it simply sits at 'GRUB'

Any information pertaining to this would be helpfull, will update this thred with board model # and stuff when I get home .

I don't know if this will help with the diagnosis of my situation

I also wanted to know if it would be safe to upgrade the bios, on boot it says the Bios is a American Megatrends Bios branded Rackable Systems and the board is intel, would the intel firmware on the intel site be safe to use? I don't want to brick this system as I just got it lol

As per this link

http://www.brianstempin.com/2011/11/11/grub2-do-not-want/ http://www.brianstempin.com/2011/11/11/grub2-do-not-want/

The issue is that the grub2 don't play well with this board. So as in the link the fix is to use a older version of grub . I did this and all works well with Solaris 11 on this system =D
