Help with 6-drive hot-swap expander kit axx6drv3gexp

I have an old server with the axx6drv3gexp expander kit and can not find any detailed specs. I basically would like to know what transfer speeds (1.5, 3.0, 6.0 Gb/s) this expander is capable of? I plan to connect with a SAS2 HBA (flashed to it-mode) but I am not sure if this expander would limit speeds or if it has a drive size limit. I would be using at least 4TB drives.

Hello daf,

Thanks for joining the community.

Based on the information found in ark.intel.com https://ark.intel.com/products/51196/6-Drive-Hot-Swap-Expander-Kit-AXX6DRV3GEXP https://ark.intel.com/products/51196/6-Drive-Hot-Swap-Expander-Kit-AXX6DRV3GEXP this expander board is compatible with a couple servers board and multiple workstations boards. Looking in the Technical Product Specification document for one of the server boards found that the storage controller is 1.5/3.0 Gbps capable https://www.intel.com/content/dam/support/us/en/documents/motherboards/server/chassis/sc5650/sb/e39531004_sc5650_tps_r1_2.pdf# page=124 https://www.intel.com/content/dam/support/us/en/documents/motherboards/server/chassis/sc5650/sb/e39531004_sc5650_tps_r1_2.pdf# page=124

thus the expander board is 3.0 Gbps capable tops. (I could not find the exact description even in the spare parts and configuration guide https://www.intel.com/content/dam/support/us/en/documents/motherboards/server/sb/s5000vsa_config_guide_105.pdf# page=7 https://www.intel.com/content/dam/support/us/en/documents/motherboards/server/sb/s5000vsa_config_guide_105.pdf# page=7 )

Hope this helps
