How to reset BIOS to defaults on Intel 2U R2308GZ4GC

I have disabled USB ports in BIOS on my R2308GZ4GC and now I have problems with my keyboard support in my RMM4, when using JViewer. I suspect the keyboard stopped working just because of that (disabling USB) as before my IP-KVM worked just perfectly.

I can load in to my OS properly and can connect to my BMC over IP in a browser/SSH but I can't use keyboard on that Java applet (JViewer) to control my server.

Besides everything on event log in my BMC, I have the following error: "Error. ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Serial port component was not detected -Major ,,,,,,Serial port component encountered a resource conflict error -Major - Asserted"

I have two questions:

1. How to reset BIOS to defaults using Linux OS or BMC panel / BMC SSH.

2. What does that error above relates to / means?

Thanks in advance,

Ilia

Thanks, I have installed and made this utility run on my server!

This command which is shown in manual is not working:

syscfg /bldfs

It returns an error:

Invalid data in the switch parameters.

How do I fix it?

According to the menu:

On S1400/S1600/S2400/S2600/S4600 platform series the command is

syscfg /bldfs [BIOS administrator password]

Examples:

1. When BIOS administrator password is set and it value is "admin@123"

syscfg /bldfs admin@123

2. When BIOS administrator is not set

syscfg /bldfs ""

Edward, I have tried that but no luck?

Either I'm entering the wrong password or syscfg is malfunctioning?

I always get an error:

Error: BIOS Admin Password is wrong and number of attempts exceeded 3, BIOS denied the access, please restart the system.

I restart the system, then try 3 time and same thing.

When you said "admin@123" does it mean

a) syscfg /bldfs admin@MypasswordIsHere

or just

b) syscfg /bldfs MypasswordIsHere

or

c) syscfg /bldfs "MypasswordIsHere" / syscfg /bldfs "admin@MypasswordIsHere"

I don't think that I have forgotten my password? Is this possible that syscfg is not working correctly? How do I reset the password otherwise?

EDITED:

I have found in the documentation of syscfg BIOS Administrator Password (/bap) that:

The maximum length of the password is

seven characters. The password cannot have

characters other than

alphanumeric (a-z, A-

Z, 0-9) and is case insensitive. Use two

double quotes ("") to represent a null

password.

BUT

My password is not that? I have set my password like 1+$4aq00poL

I was able to set this kind of password via BIOS but can't use it in syscfg?

What should I do to reset my BIOS to defaults or to make my keyboard work on redirection console (jViewer)? I think it could stop working as I disabled USB support? How to re-enable it over syscfg?

Is it the BIOS admin password or user password that you set? Did you try blank password?

I have tried blank passwords! It's surely admin password! I even tried to enable caps lock key to check it!

I found out that I can change USB Controller from off to on from syscfg by typing:

syscfg /bcs "myPasswordIsHere" "USB Controller" 1

But I still have the same error - wrong password!

I found out on the syscfg docs from my system, that passwords can be complex:

On S1400/S1600/S2400/S2600/S4600

platform series, the password should be a

minimum of 8 characters and maximum 14

characters in length. The password can have

characters alphanumeric (a-z, A-Z, 0-9) and

special characters mentioned below

! @ # $ % ^ * ( ) - _ + = ? '

which are case insensitive. Use two double

quotes ("") to represent a null password.

So I suppose that I have entered my complex password wrong?

Do I have to use "" when I supply password? Can you check on your system, somebody? Can you set complex password like mine and see if it'll work from syscfg as well?

I have tried to change BIOS settings using syscfg under UEFI with a complex password, it worked properly. Both with or without quotes. Haven't got a chance to try Linux, but ideally it should work in the same way.

Edward, thank you very much!! I will try to remember my password then!

In case, I messed up with my password, how do I reset it? It's only by physical access then, by moving jumpers on motherboard?

Yes only by moving the jumper.

I have finally went to data-center to reset admin password by moving jumpers.

I have come to the conclusion that my wireless keyboard skipped some letters as I typed the password. You are going to say that it couldn't happen twice as you repeat the entered password once again and I will say - it could. My keyboard sometimes has such a weird signal interference when it only looses connectivity with some keys while all others are working just fine. In order to make all keys work again you must move it and just a little bit is enough.

Now I'm more careful having this knowledge with me!

Hope that it will be useful to someone!
