Install OS on S2600CW M.2/NGFF drive

Hi,

I would simply like to know if it is possible to Install an OS on an Intel S2600CW motherboard's M.2/NGFF slot's drive. If it is, what options do I need to enable in the BIOS for the OS installation to see the drive as an installation destination?

Hello Some user,

 

 

In regards to your question, you only need to connect the M.2 drive to your system, there is no need to setup any BIOS option. Just make sure to select the M.2 drive during the bootup process

 

 

Please take in consideration that once M.2/NGFF device is used on the server board, SATA - 4 port cannot be used. SATA - 5 can be used at the same time when M.2/NGFF device is used, also remember the S2600CW Server Board only supports the SATA interface (AHCI). Even when M.2/NGFF allows support for many different interfaces, PCIe, USB, or any interface different than SATA, is not supported.

Thanks for the reply. I will need to investigate further as it seems the drive (Samsung NVMe SSD 960 PRO 1TB) does not get detected by the BIOS. I have upgraded to the latest BIOS version (01010021) without the drive showing up. Any thoughts as why this could be?

I had a look, seems like the motherboard only allows for M.2 SATA mode where the Samsung 960 Pro uses a PCIe 3.0 interface.

Please take in consideration that although M.2/NGFF allows support for many different interfaces, this server board supports

 

only the SATA interface (all other interfaces such as PCIe and USB are not supported).
