Good Thursday everyone,
Can the Intel 2U Hot-swap Drive Cage Upgrade Kit A2U44X25NVMEDK do RAID? I'm not seeing any documentation if it does, and if it does, how is it configured.

Thanks
Ray

Hello RSump1,

Thank you for posting on the Intel® communities.

To better assist you can you please provide more details:

  • What is the Intel server board that you are using?

The backplane does not do the RAID set up itself, the RAID can be configured using the embedded technology ESRT2 or a RAID card, the backplane is to carry, power and connect the drives, when the drives are properly mount into the backplane and detected, also all cables from the board to the backplane or from the RAID card to the backplane then you will be able to create the array.

I was going to install it in a R2208WTTYSR. So, what  understand from your message is, after installation, the drives will show up in ESRT2 and I configure the RAID from there, correct? Will I need to be in UEFI mode?

Thanks

Ray

Hello RSump1,

Thank you for your response.

Yes, it needs to be set up in UEFI mode then as soon as you install the backplane, the disks and everything is properly connected, you should be able to see the disks detected through the BIOS.

You may check the following article as a reference guide:

You may also check the ESRT2 configuration guide:

It's worth mentioning that for ESRT2 RAID 5 is a premium feature as stated on page number 4 of the ESRT2 guide and it might require to have VROC key to enable that feature of the RAID 5.
