Intel RAID RMS25KB040 but I do not get the BIOS access Cntrl+C

I have a Dell Precision 3420 PC which already has a RAID 1 installed via Rapid Store Technology and windows 7. I am going to install VMWare ESXi but it does not support "software" RAID. So I purchased an RMS25KB040 RAID controller and installed it. On boot, I do not see the option to get into the BIOS (Cntrl+C). Would anyone know why? I am concerned that this LSI chipset is not supported by this motherboard. I also wondered if I would have to Disable the RAID on the Main Board? Is it possible that the on-board RAID is stopping the newly installed RMS25KB040 RAID controller from working.

Thank You. Any information would be very helpful.

Just some extra information. I left the RAID card in and booted into Windows just using the on-board hard drive controller. When I went into Device Manager I could not even find the new RAID card. It almost appears that the main board does not even see this RAID card. I have it installed in a PCIe (x16) slot and I can see the amber light flash when I power the computer so I know it is powered.

Hello Gary,

Please try removing and reseating your https://ark.intel.com/products/60289/Intel-Integrated-RAID-Module-RMS25KB040 Intel® Integrated RAID Module RMS25KB040 and if not recognized, you could try placing it on another PCI slot. Supported PCI E slots are x8 and x16 (slots). You could try changing the RAID mode in the BIOS and selecting AHCI option to force the motherboard to use/initialize https://ark.intel.com/products/60289/Intel-Integrated-RAID-Module-RMS25KB040 RMS25KB04 drivers.

It is recommended to check compatibility of https://ark.intel.com/products/60289/Intel-Integrated-RAID-Module-RMS25KB040 Intel® Integrated RAID Module RMS25KB040 with your Server Manufacturer. I confirmed Dell Precision T7610 is compatible with at http://i.dell.com/sites/doccontent/business/smb/merchandizing/en/Documents/Dell_Precision_T7610_Spec_Sheet.pdf http://i.dell.com/sites/doccontent/business/smb/merchandizing/en/Documents/Dell_Precision_T7610_Spec_Sheet.pdf however, it has a different chipset than Precision Tower 3000 Series (3620)

Thanks so much for looking into this Cesar. I appreciate it.

I will try that AHCI option since I have NOT attempted that BIOS setting yet. I have tried Disabling the RAID but not setting the BIOS to AHCI.

Last night, I tried to simply install ESXi Hypervisor hoping that it would just see the RAID array and install but no luck. When ESXi scanned for storage devices to install on, it did not find any drives at all. This leads me to believe that the main board does not recognize this RMS25KB040 RIAD controller card.

If the AHCI BIOS setting does not work, I will look into upgrading to either a server-class computer or possibly look into a compatible Dell PC model such as the T7610 as you mentioned above.

There's a warning sticker on the box for Intel RAID 'Module / Mezzanine' adapters (RMSxxxxx), that states they only function on Intel Servers and such:
