Did you select "Fast Initialize" when creating the VD?

My bad - I mixed it with an ir3 controller. Sorry about that.

Several questions:

Which kind of RAID are you using, IM/IME or IS?

Have you updated the http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=20393 firmware of RMS2LL040?

Have you tried a drive from the http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/server/sb/CS-031779.htm Tested hardware and operating system list?

Are you using a hot-swap backplane?

Thanks for your reply.

We're using:

Server Board : S1200BTL (Firmware : S1200BTL_SUP_EFI_BIOS30_BMC1_10_FRUSDR1_09(Ver: 30;1.10;1.09) and S1200BTL_BIOS28_BMC_01_07_FRUSDR_01_07(Ver:28;1.07;1.07)Intel Raid Card (RAID 1) : AXXRMS2LL040 (Firmware : EPSD_SAS2_FW_ph10_2011.07.08, V7.19.00.00, 2011.05.16) with SAS cable directly connect to raid card.RAM : KVR1333D3E9SK2/8G (16GB)HDD : Seagate ST32000444SS Note: We have tested with RMS2LL040 old firmware(V7.05.01.00, 2010.02.09). It's just take 10 hours for 2TB (SAME HARDWARE). It's looks like is the new firmware issues.

Ideally the fixed drive bay support SATA drive only. If you want to use SAS drive you should use a SAS/SATA backplane (with R1304BTLSHBN system).

However, you may want to take a look at the SAS-SATA adapter below, although I'm not 100% sure whether it will fit the drive bay or not:
