Intel S5000XVN board - how to populate memory slots optimally

Hello. I have an Intel S5000XVN board with 4 DIMMs of 1GB of memory and I want to replace these DIMMs with 4 DIMMs of 4GB or 8 DIMMs of 2GB so I can have 16GB of memory. I want to know how to best populate the memory slots so as to get the best performance. Is it better to get 8 DIMMs of 2GB or 4 DIMMs of 4GB? Does this make a difference in performance?

Thank you.

So, after reading the section regarding the memory subsystem from the S5000XVN_TPS, what I understand is that it doesn't make any difference performance-wise whether I populate the memory slots using 4 DIMMs of 4GB or 8 DIMMs of 2GB because the slots communicate with the Memory Controller Hub by two branches.

Populating A1, B1, C1 and D1 with 4GB DIMMs gives the same performance as populating A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2, D1, D2 with 2GB DIMMs (in non-mirrored mode). Is that correct?
