Hi, It all depends what your son is going to want to do... if he is just going to use it for the internet and word documents, then just about any laptop will do some will be a faster others not but they will all get the job done. If he is going to want top play games, graphics desing or anything else then you would need to spend more.
Why dont you post a few models taht you are lookin at, it would be easier that way
