Motherboard M10JNP2SB - no PWM temperature dependent?

I have a Intel M10JMP2SB, Version 2.20.175, BIOS V7.214,  with Xeon E-2236 and 4 PWM coolers with 4 pins connectors (CPU and 3 system 80х80mm).

If i try to set BIOS option Advanced - Hardware JKealth Configuration - Fan Speed Control to "Manual" with any value i get persistent value of fan rotation independent of temperature (from low to full speed - but persistent).

Even if I use the CPU stress test with setted low speed (PWM Minimum Duty Cycle = 20), it can heat up to 90 degrees and the motherboard does not react to this in any way although the values from the temperature sensors are high.

Is this behavior is normal? And did I understand correctly that there is no fan control dependet of temperature from sensors in this product except of setting a constant PWM value in the BIOS?

Hello disappointed72,

The default BIOS setting for that value is "Manual", but there is another setting just below it that reads:

"PWM Minimum Duty Cycle", the default value should be 30%. Can you please let us know on what value is set to? If possible, please provide us a screenshot.

Additionally, please perform a Clear CMOS:

To use the BIOS default jumper, perform the following steps:

1. Power off the system and unplug the power cord(s).

2. Open the system chassis and access the “Clear CMOS” jumper block.

3. Move the “Clear CMOS” jumper from pins 1-2 (normal operation) to pins 2-3 (reset BIOS options).

4. Wait five seconds then move the jumper back to pins 1-2.

5. Close the system chassis.

6. Plug in the power cord(s), power on the system, and press F2 during POST to access the BIOS setup utility to configure and save desired BIOS options.

We will be looking forward to your reply.

Hello.

As I wrote above, I've tried setting this parameter to different values (20..50..80). But my question is about why this parameter fixes the fan speed at one value. Rotation speed not increase with increasing temperature from the sensors.

Now I had to set it to 85, since there is no normally working temperature-dependent control.

I will try to reset the BIOS.

I reset the BIOS.

Default value of PWM Minimum Duty Cycle i left in 30(slow rotation).

Sensor values in idle:

~# ipmitool sdr
CPU_Temp | 35 degrees C | ok
PCH_Temp | 48 degrees C | ok
P0_MC0_DIM_CH_A | 35 degrees C | ok
P0_MC0_DIM_CH_B | 35 degrees C | ok
MB_Air_Inlet | 37 degrees C | ok
SYS_Air_Outlet | 40 degrees C | ok
CPU_MOSFET | 41 degrees C | ok

CPU_FAN | 500 RPM | ok
SYS_FAN_1 | 600 RPM | ok
SYS_FAN_2 | 600 RPM | ok
SYS_FAN_3 | 600 RPM | ok
SYS_FAN_5 | 1100 RPM | ok

Next, I run a load test on the processor and heats it up but nothing changes. Rotation is slow as it was.

Sensor values in load:

~# ipmitool sdr
CPU_Temp | 79 degrees C | ok
PCH_Temp | 55 degrees C | ok
P0_MC0_DIM_CH_A | 49 degrees C | ok
P0_MC0_DIM_CH_B | 47 degrees C | ok
MB_Air_Inlet | 42 degrees C | ok
SYS_Air_Outlet | 45 degrees C | ok
CPU_MOSFET | 76 degrees C | ok

CPU_FAN | 500 RPM | ok
SYS_FAN_1 | 600 RPM | ok
SYS_FAN_2 | 600 RPM | ok
SYS_FAN_3 | 600 RPM | ok
SYS_FAN_5 | 1100 RPM | ok

The motherboard does not react to temperature increases in any way. Please confirm that it does not automatically change way the fan speeds via PWM so that I do not waste time.

Hello disappointed72,

First, we would like to apologize for the delay on our response.

Upon checking with our upper-level support, what you are reporting in test results is normal. The reason why RPM is not varying is because the PWM duty cycle is set low and sensor readings has not reached the threshold.

We would suggest to increase PWM duty cycle but still the fan speed will vary only if temperature goes above threshold.

In case you need further assistance please contact us back.

Hello.

Can you ask upper-level support for what is the exact temperature threshold for this board and the values from which sensors are taken to increase the rotation speeds?

CPU_Temp | 79 degrees C | - is not enough?

Hello disappointed72,

Below are the settings based on which fan speed increases.

CPU DTS > -5 (DTS value is represented in delta from the maximum allowed die temperature)

DIMM > 77

CPU MOSFET > 84

PCH > 82

If you can share more details on what level of testing is being done in the system, we may be able to help better.

We also recommend using the Intel PTU for testing thermal characteristics -

According to this info - https://ark.intel.com/content/www/ru/ru/ark/products/191040/intel-xeon-e-2236-processor-12m-cache-3-40-ghz.html and my experiments die temperature is not T case but T junction (100°C) and following what you wrote above 100-5=95°C

I think this is wrong at logic, it should be CPU T case (73°C), T junction for CPU is very dangerous and it's too late to turn on the coolers at full capacity.
