Intel(R) RAID Controller SRCSAS18E

Please help me to understand the meaning of controller information message (content enclosed).

Does it mean that Disk Drive is faulty and need to be replaced or does it mean that everything is fine.

Thx

Arvidas

Here is what I get from Google:

No Defect Spare

Location AvailableIndicates that the Reassign Block Command cannot successfully complete because allavailable spare sectors have been used. A Low-level format should be done ignoring the grown defect list and the drive retested. If no errors occur the drive is serviceable.

Dear Edward,

thank you for your answer, it let me understand what is happening.

I can recall the story now.

Having received the trouble beep I have launched Intel RAID Web Console and did find a "foreign configuration drive".

Now I can assume that the controller kicked out the drive and consumed the global hotspare drive.

By then I have deleted "foreign drive configuration", configured drive as independant volume, run testing and received the information messages in matter.

Formating the disk and diskchek did not showed any problems.

However my feeling is that it would be not a good idea to use this drive in company critical array, e.g. as hotspare drive.

I would appreciate your advise:

- if I could ignore the story above and use the disk as no critical errors are received (information message only);

- if this is sufficient reason to claim a warranty replacement.

best regards

Arvidas

If I were you I wouldn't take the risk - after all the data on it is more important than the disk itself.
