Power consumption

How does a casual white box server builder estimate power consumption?

I'm looking now at an S5000PSLSATAR with 4 or 8 * 4GB, two 5400s, three or five 7200 RPM SATA drives, and a CD/DVD burner. Will that challenge the 650W supply in an SC5299BRP or do I need more? I need that specific answer right now, but for future I'd like to know how to estimate for other configurations.

Check the downloads page for any Intel server board. There will be a Power Budget Tool that gives you all the detail you need.
