Processor Speeds

I'm confused. I have some video editing software that states the minimum recommended processor for HD AVCHD is 3ghz dual core. It appears the newer processors have a slower clock speed. I'm currently looking at a notebook computer that has a i7-720QM processor that's rated at 1.6ghz (2.8 turbo). Is this sufficient?

For one they are (regardless) stating desktop CPU's not Mobile and even though Core™2 Duo Mobile & Core™2 Quad Mobile are clocked slower then the Core™ i3/i5/i7 Mobile CPU they are faster by there Architecture.

Its likely your software has support for Quad Core making it faster then a fast Dual core vs a slower Quad Core.

The i7-720QM will be sufficient but its going to get hot being a notebook computer and what your going to do with it.

Is there a better option in a notebook? Is it true that a desktop would be better?

The i7-820QM

Is it true that a desktop would be better?

Yes the i7 860 would be like twice as fast.

Running a SSD or RAID 0 also helps.
