RSP3DD080F RAID CARD accidentally flashed with Broadcom 9460-8i firmware

I have a RSP3DD080F that has been flashed with firmware for a Broadcom 9460-8i RAID card (MR 7.18, Version 52.18.0-4053).

The device is now recognized by BIOS and by OS as the Broadcom 9460-8i.  It work just fine.

BUT, if I install Intel Premium Key AXXRPFKDE2, the device is no longer recognized by RWC3, and there is a ! bang in device manager in Windows 10.  If I remove the Intel Premium Key, behavior seems to go back to normal.

My problem is, I need this device to work with the Intel Premium Key AXXRPFKDE2.  Unfortunately, the Intel RSP3DD080F latest firmware version (MR 7.14, Version 51.14.0-3514) is way too old compared to the broadcom firmware, and RWC3 will not allow me to downgrade.

I am here to ask 2 things.

1. Is there a way to force a firmware downgrade?

2. Can Intel provide a newer version of firmware for RSP3DD080F that is as recent as the broadcom firmware?

Hello Red,

Thank you for joining the community.

Unfortunately there is feasible method to do a firmware downgrade on this RAID controller. It doesn't have something like a firmware recovery jumper or any other method for such operation. You can check the RAID adapter hardware user guide for extra details.

12Gb/s Intel® RAID Controllers User Guide

Unfortunately at this point the only options will be to use it with out the Intel key, or wait for the next firmware update released by Intel which there is no ETA yet. The latest available is from 1/13/2021 and can be found here: Firmware Package for Intel® RAID Module RMSP3CD080F, RMSP3HD080E and Intel® RAID Adapter RSP3TD160F, RSP3MD088F, RSP3DD080F, RSP3WD080E

Hello Red,

By any chance have you tried to install the Intel driver back to the controller by using the USB key method described in the Readme file? Please go ahead and try. In the worse case scenario we are figuring out if possible to get a controller warranty replacement. Please get the controller markings (SN, PBA) ready in case we need them.

I will look forward to your updates

what would it take to incentivize Intel to update the firmware for this generation of RAID card to be more consistent with Broadcom MR 7.18 or most recent?

I'm dealing with hundreds of cards, it would be nice to have recent firmware!

Hello Red,

Did you added the noverchk parameter to the storcli line and save it? This is supposed to prevent this error from happening by bypassing the version check.

About the firmware update possibility, this is pretty much a business decision and its difficult to know the exact reason as well as the update scheduling.

I will look forward to your updates about the noverchk.
