Hello,
I have read on the VMware website that ESXi 5.x supports RSTe on the SATA/SAS capable C600 chipset and have a few questions...
- Is an add in driver required or will it install with the downloadable ESXi install DVD.
- How do you manage arrays inside VMware
- Does it only work on 1400/1600/2400/2600 series boards or will it work on S1200V3RPS/L which also use RSTe ?
Apologies a newbie to VMware.
Regards,
GT

Intel only support VMware with AHCI Capable SATA Controller in AHCI mode. It's clearly documented on the Tested Operation System List, for example http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/server/sb/CS-033209.htm http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/server/sb/CS-033209.htm.
I have heard that someone was able to install VMware on SATA/SAS capable controller in RSTe passthrough mode (no RAID configured), but it's not validated or supported by Intel. On which VMware website did you see that ESX 5.x supports RSTe?

This is new to me. But the description says "The RSTE driver supports products based on Intel Patsburg SAS Storage Control", so I wonder if it will work on the SATA RSTe of S1200V3RPS/L.
